Lodi long range (why)

understand there match there rules...

It's not "their match," they are hosting the Nationals. It's not "their rules," it's the NRA rules, same for everyone.

I actually think they did a great job. Very little slack time if you shoot MR and LR; no wasted day.

Prior to last year, the Mid-Range matches were held separately. My first Nationals was 2011 in Lodi and it’s a bit fuzzy but I do remember that we shot team at 600 and 1000, on different days.

In 2012, the LR Nationals were in Raton, right after the SOA and the course of fire was two days individuals, one day team and last day individuals with the banquet that night.

In 2013, the LR Nationals were again in Raton, with the same format, followed by the World’s individuals and their awards and then the World’s teams after that. Different format.

In 2014, the LR Nationals were in Phoenix, again, with the same format; two days individuals, one day team, one final day individuals followed by the banquet.

In those days, the MR matches were being held at Camp Perry, IIRC but that came to an end in 2015 when it was decided that MR and LR would be held consecutively at the same place. There was some debate about how long a match it would be and so on. The Phoenix people came up with a formula that worked well, putting the MR team match at the end of the MR portion and thus freeing up the afternoon for LR practice. Most people who attend MR will attend LR also, and this makes most use of their time.

I attended all the LR matches since 2011 and the Worlds and then then extended MR/LR in Phoenix in 2015. The 2013 and 2015 events make for a very event for me and I’m only shooting the LR portion this year.

However, last year having the MR team event after all the individual MR events allowed our team to shoot both MR and LR team matches. I was the only one shooting the MR individuals but the rest of the team showed up for the LR 4 days after I got there. We were able to shot MR and then all of LR.

The way they have it gives the greatest flexibility and provides maximum exposure for the greatest number of shooters. If you shoot MR and LR, the team events provide for a little break in the what can be very long days. If you shoot team, it’s a different format than individuals and it's fun. If you don’t shoot team, you can take a break and finish off in style. If you did not shoot team, you would still have to wait another day for the awards banquet if the team event was after the individuals. This way, you get to shoot until the very last day and celebrate with the whole community.

This is why at the International Level we are not at the top of our sport. Meanwhile our Fellow Competitors in Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, New Zeeland, South Africa, ect ect. have a better team than we do in the USA. Team shooting is important to them but we have a nation of individuals trying to compete and win in a Team World Championship. Fostering team events makes everyone a better shooter. It fosters sportsmanship and relationships that will last a life time. You can bang away at long range by yourself and try to learn as much as you can about reading wind for a decade... or you can get involved in a few TEAM events and coach or team captain other shooters and cut that learning curve in half. Yes in Half...The opportunity is there... you just have to take advantage of it.
It has nothing to do with money... its purpose is trying to make the USA better team shooters and get involved.
I can understand if you don't want to be on the side of TEAM USA if you vote for Hilldabeast... That's cool.. LOL just kidding. Hope you all are doing well. Favor center my friends.
Plus 1, Russ!

The mid range nationals have only been held a few years. 2011 FCNC at Lodi was not strictly a long range event. There was one day of 600yd individual that was included in the grand agg. 2012 in Raton was strictly long range. 2013 and 2014 is when a mid range championship was set up at Camp Perry. It was tried to give F-class shooters a chance to participate at Perry. A large number of F-class shooters didn't like the Perry format, and voted to have it held the way they we're accustomed to. The NRA rules committee then decided that they will be held together, which is how it was set up last year.
