Loads for 22PPC

I just purchased a 22PPC and would like some suggested best 52 GR. accuracy loads to try. It is 1 in 14T, .242" Neck and is 26" Long. I'm thinking the N133 that I shoot in 6PPC might be a little fast. THANKS!

Yea, 133 is a bit fast in a full 22ppc. If down loaded to what one would shoot in a .100 short 22ppc then you can get pretty respectable aggs... Though not ideal aggs. Also when the condition calls for more powder, the brass starts to get a bit punished, primer pockets and bit case stretch.

I'm shoot'n two Shilen barrels on my LV/HV gun this year and both are full length 22ppc's. I've played around with the .100 short 22ppc. It's a great case with the 50-54gr bench bullets and will agg with a 6ppc. I just hate the case prep and the occasional neck loss that happens... So...
I'm shoot'n the full Length 22ppc now...........Powders???

Lot's a testing! I mean Lot's!
Long story short,,>in a 14" twist barrel no black magic<) Found that the heavy bullets are the way to go!
Bullet weights 56 - 62gr and either vv135 or IMR4895.
>Perfect stability out of the 14 twist..Period<

My testing has shown that my .800 length 22 J4 jacket with a core that puts the bullet weight at 60 gr and a load of either a Pull Down surplus 4895 powder or IMR4895 it aggs wonderful and recoil is a bit lighter than the 6ppc.
My chronograph readings are excellent. Heck consistently better than any of my 6ppc. 3400 - 3550 fps and ES of <25fps and wonderful Standard Deviations of <15 fps and typically around 10fps !

Heck even the Sierra 60gr HP Varmint bullets shoot very well, though will not agg with the hand made bullets.

So, I'd say give the IMR 4895 and the Sierra 60gr product num 1375 a try. The powder should weigh around 28.0 - 29.0 and measure out of a Harrell @ 50.3 clicks. Powder should be at the shoulder/neck junction.
If ya see some promise. Then get some Berger 60's or the Bruno 57gr 7ogive bullets...!

I can hear it now.....14 twist and a 55gr+ bullet...Won't stabilize. Not true out of a full length 22ppc or 22br.

What you get is agging ability of a 6ppc, easy on brass and perfect loading density.

Off to a great start this season!
My FIRST top three Grand Agg of my life! {Finished 3rd in grand agg HV} This was the VERY first outing with my HV 22ppc/4895/60 Simonson/Roby 60gr bullets. I'm very confident with this set-up!!!:thumb:
Give it a try, I'd be quite interested in your results!!!!! Let me know! You can e-mail me or PM through my profile...
Good Luck!

22 PPC
Whoever said 133 is not the best powder for the 22 PPC has not shot much BR. I have one 22 PPC Hart barrel that I have shot over 14,000 rounds in BR competition with. I bought the barrel back in 1977 as a HV 1-14 26" barrel the norm back then and had my smith Harvey Miller chamber it for .222. That gun was stolen with a another barrel on it. So in 1994 I had Bob Sutton re-profile and rechamber the 2nd barrel for 22PPC on my Hall action. My other 22 PPC barrels are Hart & Krieger for my rail. The Hart done by Bob the Krieger by Stu Harvey. My other 22PPC to be is a Krieger HV for my HV. Stu will do the work again. Last year I screwed the original 22 PPC barrel on my Hall action LV and shot a pair of .250 aggs at a San Gabriel registered shoot. No copper. Oh well put Methuselah back in my barrel vault for another day. Normally shot low 2 aggs at 100 with this barrel and high 2 aggs at 200. I have used almost exclusively Berger 52 bullets and the 22 bullets I make. I don't talk loads but I can say I have used 20 empty 8# containers of 133 and a couple dozen 2# bottles about half & half on 22 & 6 PPC loads.
I also have shot many 8# jugs of H322 for the same purpose. With my rail gun I shot back to back .18 aggs with the 22 PPC in competition at 200 yds Visalia & Phoenix using a full load of 133.
Don't listen to any of the crap about the 22 PPC. The 22 PPC was the first PPC Cartridge and back then,1974) H322 was king.
Short PPC is an abortion of the fine 22 PPC cartridge.

I burn 322 in my 22ppc 27.5 grs but this is a hot load in my gun and should be worked up slowly while checking for high pressure, they will make my bolt sticky on a hot day.
