Loading with H-414

I have been working up test loads for a 7mm/08, and 308 Winchester. Some of my reloading data suggested trying H-414. I bought 2 pounds. It physically looks like W-748. Getting ready to start testing and I thought I would ask the shooting community if they had any experience with this powder (H-414). I am experimenting with 120gr, 130gr, 140gr, and 150gr Barnes Tipped Triple Shocks and Varget, W-748, Tac, RE-15, H4895, and IMR 4350. Most of the Barnes Loading data says to jump the bullets .030"-.100". I have found so far with the triple shocks pressure has not been an issue and 2.808" to 2.210" have produced the best accuracy. I also found the load data to be quite conservative and velocities were lower than listed in the data.

It is my go to powder for a 22-250, 22-250 AI, and 6mmAI. H414 burn rate should well in your Cals.

Hi Nat... I used to use it as it meters very well being a ball powder. However, it is very temp sensitive.. Down here in Texas, where temp swings, especially in winter can be drastic, it would never "stay put" as it were in either velocity or accuracy. BUT having said that, for hunting in the "winter" it gave satisfactory results. I was shooting a 7mm-08 with 139 "InterLocks" and I found that H4350 to be much superior.. I also tried it with 140gr "Combined Tech Ballistic Silvertips" and it was fine in the cooler "hunting" weather..

I believe H414 and W760 are the same, instead of H414 and W748.
BTW, I use it in a 260 Rem with good results.

H414 and .308 Win aren't the best match but will work ok with 180 gr. or heavier. You just can't get enuf powder in a 308 case to get the pressures up to were it works well...just my experience yours may vary

Chief, How. ;D Throating is the key with the heavies in the .308. I forget the overall but Mag feeding was way out of the question. When I was dabbling I also preferred the Palma cases to handle the pressure better. Throated long you can get enough in there to do damage and I have tossed more than one case! :-[

7-08 & H414....been there, done that. Great at producing top speed, accuracy only fair trying it in three rifles. Definitely go with magnum primers with this propellant. There are better choices for this cartridge. IMR4064...H4895...RL15...Varget...others in this burn range.

So this is what you meant? ???

I shot 4 five shot groups today with H-414. Started with 47.0gr, 48.0gr, 49.0gr, and 50.0gr. With 120gr Barnes tipped triple shocks. All groups were sub .7 moa. Velocities started ay2950 and ended 3130fps. Accuracy was not as good as Varget or W-748.
