Loading Long Range Ammo on Progressive loader..

I have loaded long range ammo on a Dillon 550 for several years. I was of the opinion the powder measure was the week link. I use a funnel on top of a powder measure powder funnel. I measure with a RCBS Charge master.

Recently I started using a John Whidden CNC tool head with floating dies. My case concentricity has improved greatly.

Just thought I would share this with you.

I'm using the Whidden tool head on a 550 with a Harrell Premium measure mounted on top to drop charges.
I've only loaded 223 and 22-250AI on it and accuracy seams spot on to any other set-up I've used. I still use Redding competition dies and do the same case prep before loading.

I use Dillon Powder measure, as I only load .224's and all my loads are .5 or under, but I'm not a longrange shooter. I'm not sure why the Dillon measure would be a weak link, but you guys probably load more and are more precise than me, and I only use Ball Powder.

Nat - When you refer to "floating dies" what method/technique to you use?

I've done the Lee nut with O-ring and used standard nuts with an O-ring in both a 650 and single stage. The results while decent but not as consistant as I would prefer and so still do my serious accuracy loading the old fashioned way on a single stage.
