Loading blocks

I make my own blocks because nobody makes what I want. Why everyone makes for fifty rounds is beyond me.

I use 55 holes so I don't loose my place when I'm interrupted . What do y'all do when you make your own. I need some cool ideas!

I made one with a tray on one end . I want to cut it off cause it does'nt stack well. Kinda neat for holding bullets or whatever .

Thoughts ?

I don't make my own but have one of the members here, Tomekeuro85, make them for me. I had him make 60 round aluminum blocks for both 223 and 6BR. My first loading block almost 50 years ago was a Flambeau which had 60 holes. I got in the habit of loading 50 at a time and moving each case as I put the powder in. Works for me. Great service and reasonable price. Website here:

I make mine out of red oak with a 100-round capacity.

Flambeau Twin 60
They are almost a cult item at auction. People will pay well for them.

I just plain like the Sinclair extra thick poly blocks, heavy enough to not get knocked around by accident and I added rubber feet to make them even more secure.. They come in .223, -06 and belted magnum hole sizes. Since the purchase of an RCBS Loadmaster I don't do all the powder at once anymore. I fill the case, push the button and seat a bullet while the next charge is being thrown. No loosing place anymore and it really speeds up the reloading process. The resulting ammo (6.5 X 284) holds better than moa at 1,000 no problem on a calm day.

That's good to know I have about 60 of them!

I dumpster dive at the local range and retrieve those .38 caliber plastic cartridge holders that come with a new box of ammo. Just the right size for .223 loading.

So I spose this isn't acceptable?? This is kinda cheesy, and I only do it with iddy biddy pistol cases which have a low center of gravity. I actually have several nice hardwood blocks drilled for 25 cases of 308 case dia., which I use for most rifle stuff.

One things for sure. That powder measure isn't going anywhere.

I built a few. Then I discovered that after I spend a chunk of dough on a nice piece of cherry, oak, or other premium piece of wood and spend the time preparing it and fashioning it into a loading block I could have bought one for less money and spent my time shooting. The trade off isn't worth making them myself.

Got three and a shellholder tray too, love em!

also use some walnut ones given me by a guy in PA, homemade and I like them.

I like the idea of the "bleacher seat" style that I think Hornady?? is making, but never used one.

I make my own out of aluminum bar stock, mostly leftovers that are lying around the shop. I pick an end mill that gives me the tightest reliable fit for a given case head dimension. Nothing special other than the holes are oriented on a diagonal - I find this orientation is more convenient as I work the block from right to left. I can reach the next case with less interference from its neighbors. I realize that this is an inefficient use of material but bumping a case that is almost full of ball powder sends one back to the measure and scale. Most of my blocks have 60 holes.
