Load info??

I'm shooting a 6mm Creemoor in a trued Rem 700 action with a Proof 26" SS 7.5 twist barrel. My load is the Berger 105 HT pushed with 40.6 gn of H4350 in new Alpha brass sparked with the Fed 105M primer. My avg is 3128 with ES of 13 and SD 6.1. I'm getting cratered primers and have been told by a number of people that this is to fast and will burn the barrel out a lot faster & to slow it down to around 3000 fps as it will bet better barrel life. The accuracy on this load is what I call great 4 shot groups at 100 and all touching each other. Another thing happening is that the rifle will extract the empty case but won't eject it, never had this problem before. the bolt looks good also good spring & extractor.
Any words of wisdom out there?
thanks

Slow....it.....down.....

I can almost guarantee you you will find an equally if not more accurate node if you slow it down closer to 3000 ft./s.

I had 2 / 6mm Creedmoors. I shot the Lapua S/R primer brass. I also shot the 115 DTACs. I had a 30" 1-7 twist barrel with a .237 bore. I also had a .140 freebore. Having said that, my last one shot right at 3115f.p.s. I had a 600 yard match some time ago and on the first match I shot a 200-18X! You don't get much better than that. I am still shooting a 6 x 47 Lapua using the Berger 105 Hybrid and RL-16. It too has a 30" barrel. That load is going right at 3160f.p.s. and will shoot 5 shots "generally" an inch or less at 300 yards! I see NO SENSE getting a case that is considerably larger than a 6 Dasher and barely exceed Dasher velocity! If you want somewhat less than 3000f.p.s. get a Dasher.. The Dasher is probably (in most instances) going to be more accurate than either a 6 Creed or 6 x 47 Lapua. If you want the performance capable from the larger cases>>>>find a load that beats the Dasher by AT LEAST 100f.p.s. or go with a Dasher.

I have zero experience with a 6 Creedmoor, so I can't comment on the speed with respect to hot or cold load. I will say that cratered primers can be due to an over abundance of clearance between the firing pin and the bolt. Having Carlsbad bush the bolt and grind the firing pin will likely eliminate your cratering.

I think you are on to something here Timeout! Bushing that bolt would go some distance in fixing that cratering problem..AND in both of my barrels, I used CCI 450 primers, which have a hard cup..

Far too many folks believe that all cratering is from high pressure extrusion. It's not. As stated, the firing pin hole on most Remington M700 is too big, oversize. The primer is simply filling in the oversize hole. :(

I'm in full agreement, if you want to shoot at 3,000 fps get a Dasher. If you're shooting a Creedmoor look for the best node and test there but it will be higher than 3,000 fps.:D Barrels start to burn out the minute you fire the first shot. They are an expendable (or perishable) component. The only way to keep them new is to stop shooting. ;)
