load info need for 250 Ack

I recently bought a 250 Ackley Improved with a 1-10" twist 24" barrel.

I will be laoding 90gr FB Bergers in R-P 22-250 brass...Right now I am foring them with 35 grains of AA2520.

Thanks

I have owned several 250AI and have always had good luck with H 4350 for the heavier bullets and AA 2015 for the light bullets. I know that most will think that 2015 is too fast BUT it has always worked for me.
The "Go to" powder has always been H414 or RL 15 even though I have not found that to be true.
Sierra tests its 25 cal bullets in this caliber because of the accuracy, I believe one of there Tech people is a 250AI NUT you may want to call them.

Don't seem to be many 250AI shooters out there. I just received a heavy barrel 250AI barrel and am looking at an XP Centergrip build shortly. Looking for load data and reports also.

I have had great luck with 39.5 gr of Varget with 110 grain Nosler Accubonds. My wife shoots a 250 AI and killed a bull at a little under 300 yards this past elk season. I have not encountered any pressure signs or tempermental load preferences with the Varget/Nosler combination. Paul Box is an excellent person to talk to with Sierra. He is patient and will take the time to answer any question you have. I used Sierra loads with Nosler bullets after careful deliberation. Hope this helps.

What kind of velocities are you getting with the 100 grain accubond? barrel length and twist?

**I settled on 39 grains of AA2520 with the 90gr Berger FB I have...clocking around 3180fps from a 1-10" 24" barrel...
two deer so far 50 yds, and 110 yds...neither took a step! top of the shoulder--took out the spine...no exit on either...An eixt wound does not matter when the drop on the spot...

Thanks for the input

I have not had a chance to get a really good day to chrono the load out of her rifle. When I made some last minute adjustments to the point of impact, only three shots registered on the chronograph. It was almost dark and very cloudy. I averaged 3050 on those three shots from a stock M77 with a 22 inch barrel. I am assuming the twist is 1 in 10.

I've got a 250 Ackley Improved and I love it. It likes WW760, Re15, H4350 and surprisingly...H322. :) The H322 loads are a bit slow but very accurate.

If you really want an accurate bullet, try some BIB 88 gr. 10 ogive bullets. I had the opportunity to test some of these in my rifle and they are an impressive bullet. Here's two 5 shot targets from my rifle:

The kicker is...here's my 250AI rifle. It's a hunting rig complete with 1.5 b. trigger and a 6 power scope!: Hart #2 twisted 1:10, short 700 and 'smithed by Stan Ware at SGR Custom Rifles. It always shoots well, but the BIB 88's are just amazing in this gun.

Al, Those are really terrific groups out of a hunting rifle! What die set-up are you using? I settled for a Redding FL set, but have since purchased a Forster/Bonanza 257 AI Ultra Mic seater - seems to be a close enough fit to work fine with the shorter 250 AI.

I'm still dinking around with my 250 AI, trying to get enough brass fireformed so I can do more load development. Mine's also built around a short 700, with a 26" Krieger #5 sporter 10-twist, Williams CM steel bottom metal, Jewell HVR, Bushnell 6500 2.5-16x42 sitting in Leupold PRW rings on a custom one-pc. sloped extended scope rail, all in a B&C Medalist stock. It turned out heavier than I expected, right at 11 lbs., but since I'm not carrying it up mountains, that's OK.

Best accuracy with FF loads has been with Ramshot TAC ball powder & either Speer 87 TNTs or Nosler 85 BTs at 3200fps. Have tried Varget, RL15, & N160 with JLK 108 VLDs in formed cases, but have yet to get any real impressive accuracy at 600yds. with any of the loads I've shot. Also have a few S100MKs, Berger 115VLDs, and Speer 120gr BTSPs to try, once I get more brass formed.

Have yet to shoot any of the 85-87gr. bullets in formed cases, so can't comment on accuracy there. It's a sweet rifle, one I think will do a fine job on everything from coyotes to antelope to deer.

Well thought I would a pic of my 250ack...Remington, Douglas 1-10", 24 inch, in an ADL Manners Composite stock, OD Green Teflon on the metal, a Silver Burris FullfieldII 3x9 that I put tape on to tone down, and yes that is a scope rubber bikini,I like them because they are water tight in bad weather vs. flip-ups). The rifle was built by Troll Mountain Works. Have spent a lot of time in search of small groups...right now I am hunting! I plan on going back and working up some loads to see what it will really do.

Dennis, I'm using the standard Redding dies for my 250 Ackley along with their neck sizer. It seems to want a bit more neck tension than either the f.l. or n.s. dies give, so this Spring I'm going to send the f.l. die to Jim Carstensen at JLC and have him convert it to a bushing die for me.
