Hello,
I worked up my first 6mm BR load in my Savage 10FP w/ 27" SSS 6mm BR .272" nk 1-8 twist barrel, using Lapua cases, Varget, CCI 450's, and 107gr SMK's. Amazingly enough, I ended up w/ just right in that same range as a lot of people seem to run for powder... about 29.6gr of Varget.
For a variety of reasons, I didn't get around to chronographing it until today. The velocities are a little lower than I'd hoped for... 2680fps avg for 20rds. No, my chrono isn't broken or otherwise screwed,it's been checked against another one of the same brand... if mine's hosed, so is his
)
The conditions outside were a bit on the frigid side... 23F, RH 80%, 1470' ASL, 30.32"Hg, all according to a Kestrel meter.
I know Varget is supposed to be pretty temp stable as far as that sort of thing goes, but is it possible its just a tad too cold out and things might read a little different,higher) if I kept the ammo and/or the gun warmed up? Any idea how much?
Also... I stopped at 29.6gr because thats where the accuracy seemed best,hadn't really played w/ the seating depth, neck tension or any of that yet), and closer to 30gr I started getting ejector wipe on the case head, and occasionally a very slight crater of the primer... as in I had to snag it w/ a finger nail to even find it.
Any suggestions?
TIA,
Monte
