Not sure on 6 br but in 22 br with the 80.5gr Bergers, 29.4 grs of IMR8208 is awesome, but work up slowly. In 6 br I would think you could load more than that but again, work up slowly.

Not trying to be abrasive but why are you using a varmint bullet for accuracy?
If you, like me load for hunting then, I can understand but for pure accuracy wouldn't a match grade bullet be better?

I have shot that bullet a fair amount in my Savage LRPV 6BR which has a 28" barrel, 12 twist. The most accurate load shot just under 0.3" with three shot groups at 100 meters. Velocity was 3100 fps with about 32 grains of Varget, BR4 primer, and 0.010" jam. The VV N133 might be a touch fast, but I would start with about 28 grains and work up to see if you can get into that velocity range. I would also start with a 0.010 jam. I always avoid trying to seat right at the lands. Either use a 0.010 jump or jam. If you start with a jam, you can always change to a jump later without fear of increasing pressure. I started with H322, but found it too fast to get optimal velocities. Changed to Varget.

This said, the 68 grain Target Berger shot better than the 80 grain. It can shoot some three shot groups down under the 0.2 range. Can't average that though.

Hi Kahn,,,use 105/107 load as base line,,,then for 95 gr bullets use ~2 gr more powder and for 80 gr bullet use ~ 2 gr more than the 95 gr load,,,,,,,,,,(you can do the math) ,,,I reccomend Rx-15,,but there are hundereds of loads on the internet ,,,so pick the powder you want and use the 105/107 gr load as your starting point,,,,,Roger

1 in 8 twist Krieger 28" barrel on a Savage Target Action. Varget and IMR 8208XBR have been giving me 5 shot groups @ 100yds in the .1's", .2's", and .3's" with these bullets.

i have only been using a fairly light Varget load (30.2 grs) so far. both that load and 29.0 grs of IMR 8208 XBR are giving similar results. all Lapua brass

thanks for the input, will start low at 28 gr and see what happens,
just shooting for fun. No real goals. just experimenting for fun

The 80gr berger is listed here as one of the best bullets to try (along with the 68gr):
http://www.accurateshooter.com/cartridge-guides/6mmbr/

"Best Bullets
For short range: 80gr Berger or Fowler FB, 74gr Berger FB, or any of the good 68gr custom bullets. We’ve had many reports (confirmed by our own testing), that the Berger 80-grainers shoot superbly in both slow- and fast-twist barrels, from 12-twist to 8-twist. If you want to see how tight that 1:8″ barrel of yours can shoot, load up some Berger 80s 0.015″ into the lands with a stout load of N-135"

I usually shoot the 105-108's in my 6BR. This winter - I was also thinking of trying some of the 68gr/80gr bullets in my 6BR just to see how they would shoot out to 300 yards.

My load for a 6br is 30.5 of IMR 8208 with a rem 7 1/2 primer. It is a "hot" load that measured 3250 on a chrony. The chamber is a zero freebore in a 13 twist, 26" barrel and slightly jammed.
Work your load up from about 29 gr.
A fellow shooter worked up his 6br up to the same load and bullet with the same results. this load will shoot in the .2's and would maybe do better in more capable hands.

I checked my records for the various bullets I have tried. I shoot 3 groups of 3 shots for load testing. The top three average group sizes at 100 meters were:

0.176" - 68 Berger Target, 34.4 Varget, BR4, 0.010 jam
0.245" - 68 Bart's Ultra, 34.35 Varget, BR4, 0.010 jam
0.254" - 69 Berger High BC FB, 34.4 Varget, BR4, 0.010 jam

The best I have done with the 80 grain Berger:

0.287" - 80 Berger Varmint, 32.0 Varget, BR-4, 0.010 jam

And what about the ones that nobody talks about? The worst! This one holds the record:

1.930" - 62 Berger Target, 34.0 Varget, BR-4, 0.070 jump

The 62 grain was a no-go in my gun. I believe the throat is simply too long for this short bullet. I shot nearly a whole box of 100 and the best three shot group I got was 1.2".

My thoughts for 300 yards would be to try the 69 grain high BC and the 80 grain to see which does the best.

My 1:8 twist 6BR consistently shoots the 80 gr. FB ahead of 30.0 gr. of N135 and CCI BR-4's in the 2's at about 3070 fps and 2.230" LOA.
