Load for .357 carbine 16" barrel

Hello shooters.

I'm an Ohioan and indulging in the straight walled cartridge hunt for ohio deer gun season. I used a ruger 77/.357 as my deer blaster last year and got an 8pt. This year in extending my reach with it.

Load: 140gr Hornady FTX, H110 18gr, and a small rifle primer.
Mean from 7rds is 1783 FPS

My question is can I run hotter?

Not a lot of .357 carbin load data

Cody, Where did you find the load you are using now? Hornady does not show a load with that bullet using H110 in their 8th Edition manual. Also I hope you took note of the fact that you must trim your brass .030 shorter than normal when using those 140g FTX bullets. dedogs

you should be getting more velocity than that. Nosler lists and 8.3" barrel 150 gr. H11016.0 gr.max. at 1620 fps.
125 gr. bullet with 19.6 grs. H 110 at 1840 fps. You could also look at 2400 powder. Good shooting, Gary.

I run lil'gun with the Remington 180 gr. SJHP in my 24" Martini Cadet. I get 1750 fps and 1 1/2" 5 round groups at 100 yards . Not what you asked but just some FYI. Gonna try to kill a deer with that little "wand" someday!

The hodgdon online manual shows 19gr of H110 with a 140 XTP as max. 1997 fps from an 18 1/2 in barrel. Different bullets, but that would give you something to work up to, checking for pressure signs as you go. they use a small pistol magnum primer, that may give you better pressure indications than a rifle primer. Just my thoughts.

Also, H110 was the fastest powder listed for the 357 rifle loads
