Load for 243 and 95 gr SST

Looking for a load to deer hunt. I have 95gr sst, looks like the only thing I have in a hunting bullet. What powder do I try.

I've got h4350. Will try that. Any pet loads using h4350. Will 95 sst do the trick with deer? Hope so. This load is for my son that is 8 yrs old. Want some thing with low recoil. Shooting at rem vssf bedded in stock. Have had good luck with 90 gr Bergers but it isn't for hunting that's for sure. He shot one last year in the neck. It went down but didn't kill it. Left a hole in the neck with almost no penetration at all. Just looking for something better.

The bullet you have in question will certainly do the job but depending on your barrel twist may not stabilize it. Most off the self factory 243's are 10 twist, what I would use is a Nosler 90 gr. BT or a Partition.

If you need reduced loads for the 8 yo, check Hodgdons site and look for 'Youth loads' on L side as I recall. Been awhile.

How far are the deer shots for the 8 yo??

He has shoot deer before at to 250 or so yards. I couldn't believe the shots he has made so far, first shot in the neck at 238 yards. When I take him out the most would be 300 or so. Loaded some 90 gr Bergers for the rifle, shoots pretty good, but it isn't a hunting load. First deer shoot with it went down, but did not do the job. I had to finish it when I got to it.

My 95 gr bullet load is 46 grs of H-4831SC. Runs right at 3000. Decent load & accurate. THE bullet for the 243 is a Barnes 80gr TTSX. The 95 gr BT is an OK deer killer but the 80 gr TTSX is a hammer. You can shoot them thru both shoulders if you want to. It will open up & penetrate.
