Load development results

Hey guys, wanted to extend my thanks for the reloading and custom rifle build advice, and post some load development results.

I broke the barrel in following the Krieger process. Copper fouling diminished after the fifth and sixth cleaning just like they said it would. It now cleans up like a dream.

The first full 5 shot 100 yard groups were with 70 gr Sierra BlitzKing bullets and they shot okay. One group in the mid 3s and two groups in the low 4s. The next two 5 shot groups were with 70 gr Sierra match bullets and the first measure .224 and the next was .244. This was with N133 powder with the bullets loaded to the lands. I will be loading more of this round up that's for sure.

I know this gun will consistently shoot in the 2s, and fully expect at least a few groups in the teens each time out. My first custom gun and I can assure you not my last.

Good stuff Otter. I always like to hear about a rifle build that worked out extremely well. I am assuming this a 6mm of some sort. Krieger makes great barrels, atleast thats what I have heard and read, haven't owned one yet. You noticed I threw that "yet" in there. Have fun and shoot the piss out of it.

Now you need to try some Bergers in about the same weight, and see if you notice any difference. There both good brand bullets, but they are different. And dont forget to post the results.
Another Mike.

Otter: Of 3 "lightweight" bullets, my #1 choice for accuracy requirements remains the 68 gr. Berger #24411, second choice is the 70 gr. Sierra hpbt #1505, and third choice and used for "live" tgts (g'hogs) is the 70 gr. Sierra #1507 BlitzKings. All in front of 30 grs. of N133 with 205 primers. I am talking about my 6BR's with 14 twist Shilen & Hart barrels, .265" tight, fitted necks.

Frank, it was the load you told me about that worked, right down to the primers. Too bad I'm almost out of 205m primers though.

That same load with the BlitzKings had a lot of horizontal, which could have been the load, the bullet or me. There was no wind to blame. A lighter load of 29.2 grains of N133 was more accurate with that bullet.

I will try the Bergers, but I didn't get very good results with them in my .223s. I was thinking of trying Brunos or Barts first.

And this is a 6BR with a 13.5 twist. Should have included that in the first post.
