lilja or shilen

Shooter65, do you believe those numbers? I have a big bridge in the Gobi Desert to sell you. Since you are sure of your numbers, how was it measured?
Bartlien makes a great barrel! But no fairy tales please.

To the 4th decimal point.

A)Bore Diameter tolerance = +.0005

B)Groove Diameter tolerance = +.0005

C)Bore and Groove uniformity along entire length of barrel +.0001/-.0000

D)Twist uniformity is best in the industry. Twist can be carried out to the 4th decimal point. Example: 11.3642 A Bartlein Barrels Exclusive!

glo,
The first 3 tolerances are the norm for BR barrels by the better barrelmakers. I'm not saying bad things about Bartlein barrels as I have some and they shoot very well. I do not believe the twist rate to 4 dec. points. Do you know how to check or verify that?

got the rifle back a week or so not had the chance to shoot it yet, what is the best way to run it in? or should i run it in at all .
heard some conflicting methods .

This is what I would do just to be safe. Do the following;

Shoot 1 Clean
Shoot 1 Clean
Shoot 3 Clean
Shoot 3 Clean
shoot 5 Clean

Do this and your barrel should be broken in. In all reality, it will probably be broken in after you do the shoot 1 and clean phases. However, I always do the whole brake in procedure just to be sure and to put my mind at ease. That's my 2 cents. Have fun.

the problem people are trying to avoid in breaking in a barrel is the microscopic burrs left by the chambering reamer. I've had very good experience by polishing the throat with jb bore cleaner. with a very sharp reamer the burr is gone with about 20 strokes.with a not so sharp reamer it can take 100 strokes. if you cant see a burr with a bore scope all you need to do is clean the barrel real well before you shoot it. just my opinion, treeman

Personally have owned & shot Krieger, PAC -NOR, HART & NOW A LILJA ALL ARE QUALITY barrels made by Quality Companys. I can't tell the difference in shooting them obviously I am not a competitive Benchrester trying to win or compete in the nationals. I am happy with All of the above and wouldn't mind owning a Bartlein, Shilen etc. Never enough good guns. After reading comments about BAD BRAND X or C Are you sure on the reamer smith or your loads? Rather have an average Krieger put together by a COMPETENT smith with a QUALITY REAMER & Precise handloads with GOOD GLASS than a Hummer of a Shilen put together by Farmer Bill in his barn and Ammo handloaded by his cousin Fred with a Kmart scope. As noted by the TREEMAN break in is important especially in fouling /cleaning problems & accuracy. NO DOUBT ALOT of people on this site are capable of telling the differences in these barrels. Thats why I read & post here trying to Learn from everyone I can.Quality control today is excellent no doubt everyone has a bad day & People are involved in the building of these barrels But can you really tell the difference? My experience is to eliminate all the possibilites of error for phenomenal accuracy results, thats why we are here at 6mmBR)My apologies if I offended farmer Bill or his cousin Fred or any resemblance to them. Whats Important to ME is a Great Shooting easy to clean barrel with a manufacturer who stands behind their work / product. Now do I take my Zeiss 6.5 x 20 off & put a Night force on my 6BR? Am I going to shoot 1/4 in groups instead of 3/8 in groups? Looking for an excuse to buy a Night force & trying to Stir up the Hornets Nest :nono: Same thing as the barrels question both are good is one better ? Is it spring yet ? I am ready to go shooting squirrels!

Your barrel starts wearing out with the first bullet fired. Why fire a bunch of rounds for no other reason than to clean? What you are actually trying to break in is the reamer marks in the leade. I would go to the range and do my normal shooting. I would short stroke a patch with JB in the leade area and do my normal cleaning every 8-10 rounds. I go through a lot of barrels every year for various types of shooting and will not wear mine out cleaning and doing useless shooting with them.
