Lightning Trout

I know there must be a ton of fishermen on this site. Yesterday I heard about the Lightning Trout in California. What do you think? Another is the Palomino Trout of West Virginia. Both pretty trout.

That's what I thought at first. I have caught many Golden Trout in CA. The Goldens don't look anywhere like the Lightning.

Like a lot of California residents, it looks like it has been spending too much time in its mothers basement.

Seriously, never knew they existed. If I caught one I'd probably think it was ill.

The Palomino trout is a cross between a Golden and Rainbow in West Virginia. My Grand Son is an avid trout and flyrod fisherman, but he has only heard of them. Said a place in Pa. is the best place for them.

West Virginia actually has a "Gold Rush". Where selected streams and ponds are stocked with only golden rainbow trout for a 2 week period. These trout are just a rainbow with a mutated gene. The golden rainbow seem in be alot more finicky on what they hit, but they give away the location of the rest of the trout in the pocket of water. Most often the rainbows are right behind them.

The beautiful things that are around us and we sometimes don't even notice. I guess the old saying, "Stop and smell the roses" has more meaning than we realize.

What an amazingly beautiful trout! I live very close to several high mountain lakes that were stocked with California golden trout in the early 1900’s. I have caught numerous specimens over the years as they still carry a viable population.

I caught one ONCE in a spring and stream fed lake in N.W. Ct. fished there probably 20 times a year for at least 25 years. Never saw another in all that time, plenty of brown, rainbow, and small brookies. Always caught our 5 fish limit.

My buddy catches Lightning Trout fairly regularly in Lake Chabot (just south of Oakland, CA.) I assume they're stocked. I had never heard of them before a few months ago (I don't fish much, but did a decent amount in Sierra's when I was younger.)
