Lightest recoiling 12ga, 2&3/4 in, #6 load?

Some light loads are available in #8 and #7.5 shot sizes. Used to get light #9 shot loads too. But these light loads were meant for skeet and sporting clays. Generally #6 shot is intended for hunting small game and I doubt any light loads are available.

For Crows, we use a load that is:

1-1/8 oz of #6
19.6g of 700x
1130-1160 fps
Kills near and far, patterns very tight

Assuming you are loading your own. With the correct wad, you could load as low as 7/8 ounce of shot. Never tried it, but just substitute 6 shot from skeet or trap load data. For trap and skeet I use 1 ounce load with Clays and the recoil is manageable for me. Not a fan of heavy recoil. You could look into Winchester Lite powder.

Winchester had a 7/8 ounce load a while back. It was loaded to about 1350 fps, but recoiled less than most 1-1/8 ounce loads. The wad looked like confetti coming out of the barrel.

If you can't find those, there are some 1 ounce loads from Rem, Fed and Win. Those are generally running 1290 fps.

If you reload buh the pink 3/4 wads and load them to 1250-1300 fps. I used that and other wads with a fruit loop on top to make 5/8 #9 skeet loads at 1320fps. Very low recoil and can break 25 no problem.

What do you mean by a fruit loop on top?

Are you asking about a gun or ammo? If you are looking for a gun recommendation - I have Beretta A390 Silver Mallard that is the lightest recoiling 12 ga. I have ever shot. It's even pleasant to shoot 3" mags with. The A390 is no longer a current model, but I have no doubt it's successors are equally as pleasant to shoot.

Fruit loops or Cheerios are a good filler if you plan to shoot them quickly. After a while, they deteriorate into buffer and you get a shell that rattles.

Toss a fruit loop or cherio on top of shot and you can get a good crimp on light for wad loads. In my case a 3/4 oz wad shooting 5/8 loads. After you charge the wad with shot drop a fruit loop on top and crimp. The crimp will be nice and uniform.

I've shot some factory 12's from Clever and Rio with 7/8 oz of #8 shot
at 1135 fps----very low recoil.

These broke 16 yd trap targets very well but I don't know about their availability in #6 shot-----being target loads, I'd suspect their largest
shot size would be #7 1/2.

Years ago I loaded some 7/8 oz 12's with Red Dot and (I think) AA Red wads in AA hulls-----didn't seem to be any disadvantage on the skeet field. This was
a published load from the (then) Red Dot manufacturer.

Hope you can buy or build what you need.

Do you load shotshell ammo? I have loaded a fair amount of 3/4oz. 7/8oz, and 1oz. light loads. Claydot works great on 1oz and 7/8oz, Ultralight is probably a little better for 7/8oz and 3/4oz. Loaded to 1200fps or even a little less they are pleasant.

The ability to load very light target loads for my son when he started shooting was my main motivation. You won't save money on standard target loads but you can load exactly what you want.

Go buy a lee load all. If you don't do competition or high volume shooting that wonderful little product will reliably load buckets of quality ammo for you. Visit a local trap range for hulls. Cheaper remington Gun Club hulls will reload for you beautifully and can be reloaded a few times before they are junk.

Again the Pink 3/4 oz wads even with a load of 6's at 1250-1300 fps will make a great lower recoil hunting load. If run in an auto they "may" not function. My little 5/8 1300 fps skeet loads will reset both my over unders reliably but are borderline on resetting the triggers on some O/Us. I can break 25s on the 16 yard line with the 5/8s but they do require more concentration to get there.
