Light bullets out of 6.5 PRC

Any experience with 95gr V-Max bullets or 107gr Sierra bullets in 6.5 PRC

I don't see any reason you couldn't run them. They'll have longer jump, but we now know that several bullets can jump a long way and have good accuracy.

They will, however be very inefficient. That huge case with a light bullet is really a mismatch. But I'd think you'd be good in the 120-123 range just fine. Should hit 3400+ with 120s.

I plan on starting with 123 gr bullets and go up as throat grows. What throat do I need, thinking .060??

It depends ideally on what bullet you wish to use and what jump it likes.

Why not try a standard PRC chamber? Don’t be afraid of another 0.030 jump or so.

I was going to work up some loads using light bullets to see what top velocity I could get just before the virus closed my range. I seem to remember loading some sierra 85gr hp in my 264 win in the 60s but can not find them now. Anyone have a few? When the range opens, I will test them in my prc with a 30 " barrel.

Sierra discontinued the 85s. Powder Valley had some last year, not sure if they have more.

I’d try the 90 TNT and 95 v-max instead.

While Hornady seems to make only ammo with 143 and up bullet weights I see loads coming from Federal and Nosler soon that have lighter. But it appears at least one of them is a lead-free option with a 120 grain bullet.
I load for two 6.5PRC barrels. One is a 28" Kreiger 8 twist on a Stiller Tac30AW action. I didn't start with anything under 140 gr and it seemed the heavier I went the better it performed. Currently I shoot the 153 Atip with Retumbo and don't plan on changing that. The second is a 28" Kreiger 8 twist that screws onto my BAT long-range BR rifle. I find I much prefer the 6BR variants over anything for those rifles and the PRC has only seen one match. I was shooting 140 grain there and It did not go well. Not the fault of PRC but of the idiot who forgot to get the top screws of the scope rings tight.
One thing not brought out here yet is what may happen to those lightweight varmint bullets at the rotational speeds 3500FPS is going too impart. I see the likelihood of an 8 twist (even 8.5) making for an unhappy situation.

I will test your ideas. My 7.5 5r at top velocities will test their integrity. I have found some 85 gr Sierras and will post results when my range opens. My interest is testing steel penetration of very high velocity impact.
In the old days a 220 swift penetrated a half inch.
