Lever action load question

I had the opportunity recently to pick up a good supply of Hornady 500gr round nose bullets and have been wanting to develop a low pressure/low velocity brush hunting load for my 1895 lever action. Realizing of course that the cannelure is in the wrong place, I was wondering if anyone else had worked on this type of project before.
