Leveling a scope off the stock?

Probably been discussed before but I haven't seen anything. I would think if there was a way to level off the stock, that would be the best possible way. I've seen it before where the action itself was bedded but it cants ever so slightly to the right or left. While the scope is leveled to the action, it's not leveled to the stock. Then when you go to set up your rifle in the bags, you have to twist is to get the hairs leveled. I want to hear what you guys have to say on the subject.

I've always wondered why the scope manufacturers don't put a centerline on the scope, as a reference for the buyer/installer. I get the gun level, on the dining room table, as best I can, and then use my garage trim for the cross hairs as a reference for level. I know that's level, cause I built it.

Just musing here, but If it were me and it was a target rifle, I would level the crosshairs to the stock and not worry about the bore misalignment. Unless of course you were frequently involved in cold bore egg shoots with Chrysler Cordobas as prizes. Then I would re-bed it because those babies have Corinthian leather.

Richardo Mantalban now thats funny!!!!

All the flat bottom stocks I have the actions are bedded to be level with the bottom of the stock. If you have a good smith they will get it right.

Set rifle on a solid bench with good front and rear rests. Place a level at 12 and 6 o'clock. When the bubble is exactly centered, twist scope until small level you have placed on the turret cap is also level.

If you have access to a range or some place with a sturdy bench just level your rifle in your rest or your set up and go down range and hang a heavy piece of colored rope or something similar with a good heavy weight of some sort then align your vertical cross-hair with it gravity doesn't lie ;)
