What is the difference between a Leupold VXlll 6.5x20x40 EFR and Leupold VXlll 6.5x20x40 EFR air rifle scope? Or are they basically the same scope?

Single-piston spring air rifles have a unique recoil profile - the usual rearward impulse as the pellet is fired, followed by a reverse kick when the piston hit the stop. Many scopes couldn't handle that, which led to special designs for that purpose. With PCP rifles it's a non-issue, and modern scopes are more robust than older designs. I'd expect a recently-designed scope to be fine on a springer. There were also a few dual-piston springer designs that compensated for the piston impulse, but they were complex (expensive? unreliable?) and soon replaced by PCP rifles IIRC.
