Have the older VXII 3-9 EFR on my CZ 455 and was considering a new one for a CZ .223 carbine. It seems the older version sells for more than the newer Freedom. What's the difference?

Them new one don't favor my taste, have always like the older model Leupolds. I guess it's the looks, compared to the more robust look. Especially in a fine rifle with nice wood and bluing, them vintage Leupolds look outstanding. Most of my vintage Kimber's and Annies only were gloss Leupolds.

As I remember, there were VX models along with VXii and VXiii ones.

I think Leupold eliminated the equivalent of the VX ii models. So, the Freedom line is equivalent to the older VX models.

As long as the new one is comparable optically and mechanically to older versions will probably get the new style for this particular rifle.

I have both. Identical performance. Can't tell them apart looking thru the scope. Small cosmetic differences on the outside if you pay attention. Both mine are matte finish.

Looked at one today as they seem comparable except adjustments don’t seem as positive as my older one.

I have a couple of new ones and I once owned an older one. Aside from the no-longer-available gloss finish, I'd say they're pretty similar.
