Back in the prehistory of benchrest in Australia, those who only could afford Leupold 3-9s would find a plastic bottle cap that would fit the eyepiece & punch a ¼" hole in the centre of it. You could only see when your head was in one position, so parallax wasn't an issue.

I re-set the parallax on a M8 12X with AO back and forth between use on centrefire and pellet guns. You may be able to do the same, depending on how your scope is configured. There is a lock ring inside the objective which can be rotated with a wide flat blade, placed within notches machined into the lock ring. I found a plastic ruler fitted well with no chance of damaging the lens. Once that is backed off, the complete objective 'cartridge' can be rotated to either increase or decrease parallax, before resetting the lock ring against the cartridge. I think it was rotated counter clockwise or backed out of the tube to allow closer range use and obviously the opposite to increase it, but it was a few years ago and I don't have the scope any longer. I would imagine all the Leupold models with AO would be the same. Can't help you if its side focus.
