Leupold or Zeiss

I am looking to purchase a dedicated Varmint Scope and have narrowed it down to these two:

Leupold 8.5-25 X 50 with their Varmint Hunter Reticle

Zeiss Conquest HD 5-25 X 50 Rapid Z 800

Thanx,
Jim

I had an HD and its a nice scope but I would choose the Varmint reticle.

it wouldn't stand up to hard kickers though

I have both models and I like each one. Optically, the Zeiss has a wider zoom range [if that matters] but Leupold comes with all the accessories. As mentioned previously I'd pick the Varmint Hunter Reticle which my Zeiss has (my Leupold is a Fine Duplex and used on a target rifle). If the scope is being used in primarily daylight hours, both should work equally well for you. One thing about Zeiss scopes is the reticles are etched and are very black, a nice attribute,

I've used Zeiss scopes on rifles from 20 VT to 300 WBY Mag and haven't had any problems, so I can't comment on what the previous poster mentioned.

HTH,

I have pretty much went with all Zeiss, and I had multiple VX3s, VX6 and some IIIs. I don't think there is a contest in terms of glass. Leupold may have them on the adjustment as the conquest and conquest hd5 are only 1" tubes.
