Leupold Custom Shop

I had the opportunity at the SHOT Show to talk to a rep from Leupold. I talked to him about some problems I had with Leupold AR scopes, that the two lines of the reticle were not perpendicular and the reticle was rotated as well. Two problems. And that I had sent the scope back twice to have it corrected.

He acknowledged quality problems with scopes that were not US made and that the company had addressed these issues. He also said something about scopes being America made. Maybe that in the future all Leupold scopes would be American made? I don't remember exactly.

I did buy an FX-3 a year or so ago and I am very pleased with that. There is one thing that I would like to be different, the reticle and mentioned this to the rep. He told me that in the near future, 3 to 4 months, that Leupold would be offering a custom reticle service. That you could design a reticle and they would make it. His exact words were, "You can draw what you want on a cocktail napkin and provide the specific dimensions and the Custom Shop will make the reticle for you".

Neat info on the custom reticle. I’m out of touch with Leupold, didn’t know that they made anything outside of the USA.

On the Leupold website;

"Leupold riflescopes are all designed, machined, and assembled in our Beaverton Oregon manufacturing facility. We do not have any other riflescope manufacturing facilities or offices anywhere in the world."

Perhaps I misheard or was previously misinformed. I was under the impression that Mark AR and other Leupold scopes that do not have a Gold Ring, were made outside the US.

Was at the sheep show in Reno couple weeks ago and talked to a couple reps. The way I got it is all scopes are U.S. made. Most of my scopes are Leupold which have severed the purpose,have VX-6 on my long range that is a keeper(just wish they would do something about the mushy clicks

I love Leupolds. Having said that, their website sucks!!! I remember their previous site and that was much better than the present one. Maybe I'm computer challenged?? Bring the other one back.

Not necessarily OR. Could be AND or NEITHER. As in, Leupold’s website sucks AND you are computer challenged. Always remember, just because you are paranoid doesn’t mean people are not out to get you.

It’s not the greatest web site but I think “Sucks” is a little harsh. I think Savage’s web site is a lot worse than Leupold’s, possibly up into the red zone on the Suck Meter.

6shots, maybe you don't remember, or never saw the previous Leupold website? As "sucks "is a qualitative expression of opinion, and maybe (surely) we don't all have the same basis of reference, yes, maybe it could be considered "harsh". So, I'll retire my opinion that it "sucks" and just leave my opinion that the previous format was more to my liking. If the Savage web site is better or worse, I don't know. I'll have to go there to get an opinion. Which I will, forthwith.

There's a big difference between "assembled" and "manufactured".

For a quantitative expression of "suckiness" , zero suckiness is zero inches of mercury. A perfect vacuum and full suckiness is 29.92" of mercury.

Had the canted reticle issue on a VX3. Leupold stated it was within their margin of error. That’s all I’ll ever need or want to know about Leupold quality. I’m out $1,000 on a useless scope. Leupold can pound sand.
