Leupold 36BR vs Leupold 36BRD

The BRs were the first gene. The BRDs were made with a better reinforcement spring set up on the erector tube inside the scope. The BRs didn't have this and suffered with lost zeros. I've also read that the BRs did not have a locking ring on the parallax adjustment.

fe 1,

There was at least one 36X model before the BR series, known as the M8 36X. This did not have a locking objective. All BR models have the locking objective with the BR-D the dual erector lens spring in addition to the locking objective and marked BR-D on the objective. BR models are gloss (at least the black ones, not sure if they also came in silver), with the BR-D's matt finished. I've had them all in both 24X and 36X and they all were fine mechanically. So if you have a locking ring on the objective and its marked BR, its not a BR-D.

Hope that helps,

Richard.

Richard, Thanks that cleared things up. My scope is in silver and marked BR. I've only used it in .22 rim fire ARA matches and so far have had no problems with it.
