Leupold 20x60x80 Sequoia Spotting Scope???

I am in the market for a Spotting Scope. I would like to be able to buy a Swarovski, Leica or Zeiss, but I have spent too much money on my Swarovski 8x30 Range Finder and Zeiss 15x45 Binos. So, I need some suggestions on a Spotting scope for varmint hunting out to 1000 yards. I willing to spend about $500.00 for a new spotting scope. I am currently looking at the Leupold Sequoia 20x60x80 Spotting Scope. Has anybody used one of these spotting scopes. A varmint hunter at the range recommended it. I would like to get your opinions on it.

Here is a good bet from a relatively new name in optics -- Alpen, out of Denver. I bought a 20-60x80 spotter from them about two years ago for $375 or so, held my breath and expected something just above crap. But to my surprise, they are quite good and clear. Not Leica or Swarz's but darn good on a budget. A lot better than some big name brands. It is their top-of-the-line model and retails for above $500. I picked it up from Sportsman's Guide.

Not too heavy and there is some heft to them and they come with a nice table-top tripod and it has fine adjustments that I didn't expect. Built-in sunshade and rubberized. I've never tried it beyond 200 but that doesn't mean it can't perform farther -- it does bring in the craters and mountains on the moon darn good. I wouldn't hesitate to bring them out on a PD shoot.

www.alpen.com should give you some info. worth looking at.

I've been hearing the Nikon and Bushnell Elite Spotting scopes are very nice. I will have to check them out. The Leupold Sequoia is OUT, I've got nothing but negative information about this spotting scope. I have had so many e-mails telling me what a piece of junk they are. I am surprised Leupold would build a bad product. Anyhow, I am going to have save some more $$$. I have heard the ultimate spotting scope is the new big Pentax 100ED. It sells for around $1900.00, sure would like to have that baby, but it's gong to have to be something cheaper.

KOWA !!!! SOME OF THE BEST GLASS FOR THE PRICE !!

LEUPOLD ARE NOT THAT BAD FOR THE 300.00 PRICE RANGE BUT YOU HAVE TO COMPARE APPLES TO APPLES AND IT NOT GONG TO COMPARE TO A 1000.00 KOWA .

GOOD LUCK
