Lense Color? Shooting Glasses..

Nodak7mm

Team Lefse
Looking to get a pair of RX shooting glasses. Is there a preferred all around lense color for NRA style targets that will provide some sun protection? (Such as alot of recommendations for clay target orange, but no black on white background..)

Thanks

Rod

I would normally use a clear lens in my shooting glasses so that all the light that was available would reach my eye.

When using colored lenses I have found that yellow is good on an overcast day. Gives better bull definition.

On a bright day, more of an amber/orange helps me.

I think that each person is an individual and you just need to look thru different colored filters to see what you like for the different light conditions.

There are rear adjustable irisises that are made with colored filters built in. You might want to get some opinions on those as you can switch to any of four or five colors in an instant and see what is working that day.

I've never seen colored shooting glasses on the rifle range. If you want sun protection when prescription polarized sun glasses when you're off the line. As Bob said most people opt for an iris with built in colors. I've never had a use for colors and an iris with filters is just another thing to keep clean. However, some of my teammates seem to have success with colors in their irises - so it might be worth a try.

Mark,

You are correct on keeping lens clean. That is one of the reasons I have taken to always keeping a can of compressed air in my kit. You know, the kind that people use to clean computer key boards and such.

It is real handy stuff to have around.

Read this: http://www.6mmbr.com/eyeprotection.html in my opinion you should be more concerned with what lense material to go with than color. I opted for Transitions lenses. The only way I know what color they are is to take them off and look.

Yep, it is that!

Blowing rain off your front sight lens, blowing powder granules out of your action when you have to unload for a cease fire (hate to have to do that otherwise), carefully blowing out the gnat that flew into your rear sight mount tube before a string of rapid-fire....

Lot's to recommend keeping a can in your shooting kit.
