? Length of 22 Lr Barrel ?

Howdy all, hope everyone's well.

I have a Rem. 521T in a 22Lr.
I picked up a Bartlein..9000 str. From Chris 27" My gunsmith and I are wondering what length to cut it.
Will be using it at our range club in made up competition and maybe 50/50 matches just to have Fun.
Is there a preferred optimum length?
Thanks David

If your smith does not know how to do this you’re behind the 8ball right from the start.
Most good guys will slug it and cut it at the tightest spot for the crown, likely 24”-26”.
Dedicated RF smiths are usually your best bet.

Will this be used with iron sights?

If so, longer sight radius is more accurate, leave as close to 27in as possible.

Maximum velocity in 22LR is 16in. If you're using a scope, cut it there for stiffness.

The worst of either choice would be 20in, which is no-mans land, less sight radius and less velocity/stiffness.

20” is no man’s lands? lol 20” will work just fine. You also don’t lose a ton of velocity going longer than 16” and you actually get better es/sd numbers.

Thank you All for your replies.
As usual very good info.
The factory barrel is 24" and has done very well since 1958. So it seems like it really doesn't matter other than to slug the barrel for a tight spot.
My gunsmith and I are up in our 60's.
The other day when I dropped off everything, we got into a conversation about the length and we got into talking about the Houston Warehouse Experiment. If your familiar, then you know what I am talking about.
And with 22 Matches of various variety, we thought we would ask around what others are finding.
Thanks if anyone else has experience I think this could be interesting.
Thanks Again

Just depends on your sports. I shoot mostly PRS22 style matches but also some steel silhouette stuff and most in the sport now use 22-26” mostly for balance when on props.

Any of the lengths can be accurate. Pic one and go have fun.
