Length difference between go and no-go gauges

I did some checking this morning. My 284 Winchester bolt closes on the go gauge, then I need two layers of Scotch Magic Tape (.002" per piece) on the back of the gauge for the bolt not to close.
Then on my 6XC, I needed three layers.
So the difference between go and no-go on the 284 was .004" and on the 6XC it was .006".
Does anyone have a set of go and no-go gauges they can measure? Just the difference in length between the two. I'm curious.

Are you measuring to the datum point on the shoulder of the gauge or overall length.
I don't think Scotch tape would be the best yardstick (pun intended.) But here goes....6br go measured to datum point with stoney point b350 insert is 1.160
no go is 1.1645

O.a.l. which is not corresponding with datum differences
Go is 1.231
no go is 1.233

That is very interesting. I don't understand why the DIFFERENCE is not the same. Apparently one of your gauges has more of a "point". And I would trust the difference from the datum point.

In my case, it doesn't matter where I make the measurement as I am basically measuring the thickness of the tape using one gauge.

Are both yours and Sky's gages made from the same manufacturer (ptg, jgs, ect) because each could be spec'd differently....I'd also question the Stoney Point tool becuase they are not all the same measurement wise.

Mine are both ptg.
And as far as the stoney point goes I'm measuring 2 gauges with the same insert which is indexing on the same point with my gauges. Now I would agree that someone else's stoney point insert could measure my gauges differently.

Agreed, Sky. Using the same insert on your two gauges gives you a true difference of .005" on your two gauges.
And it doesn't matter where I take my measurement since I am measuring one gauge - just adding tape. My 284 gauge is a Forster and the 6XC is a PTG. My 6XC might close on a no-go gauge since the bolt closed on .004" worth of tape but not on .006" worth. But tape has a little more "give" than steel. It doesn't matter as the gun really shoots - even shot a groundhog at 875 yards a couple evenings ago. But I was just curious.
