Lee Powder measure - Perfect or Classic ?

No it doesnt insult any of the guys i know. They have old rusted 50yr old tools that do what needs to be done. Most important thing is for a tool to be solid and not break during transport or use. Its gotta be fast, precise and repeatable over its possibly 50yr lifespan. Theres a reason we use tools such as harrels measures, custom made $500 dies, priming tools such as 21st century and neck turning tools such as a pma. We dont use them just cause we like pretty billet hand made expensive things- we use them cause in 10yrs theyll repeat the same measurement and we wont have to get some plastic piece replaced.

There are several intended purposes of this tool

1. Quick dump close to the intended weight then weigh and trickle

2. Load generally the same amount of powder for simple range shooting rounds

or

3. Precision repeatable loads for Accurate shooting

Three different uses. For me it's the first one. The second one is being done in many homes for simple low cost loading. The last one requires very durable (transport to and from ranges) and precise repeatable measure. The isn't for that.

I received the Lee today. Its real small and simple. I mounted it and will figure out the setings and see if it makes the process simpler that using the Chargemaster to get close before trickling.

I own several powder throwers and used more still. I currently use the Lee Perfect measure. I recommend it to all of my customers.

TEST DAY

well I mounted my new Lee Perfect powder measure and set out to weigh and liad a few .223's

Today it is W748 26 gr

To start it truly looks like it came out of a box of Cheereos. I screwed it to a piece of plywood and used a couple C-clamps to mount to the bench.

I read the formula on the Lee instruction and this did get me close to the desired weigh.

And away we go......First lesson hold the reloading scale dish real close to the mounth of the Lee. First drops bounced out around the bench.

After a couple of tweeks to the Lee adjustment stem the drops proved to be between, 25.92 and 26.05

After a few more the range narrowed to 25.96 and 26.04, several much closer.

so other than moving the equipment arround on the bench to accomodate this new method, this is pritty fast compared to the Chargemaster 1500. Now with that said when using the CM 1500 there is a little time while it meters, that is used to move the funnel, check the brass, and generally do what we do when filling cases while it meters out and weighs.

Overall the Lee is simpler to use. No settling of the CM before starting the next.

Bottom Line: The Lee works quite well. works as advertised. Accurate and consistant to a tenth. For a hunter or plinker they could drop right in the case and seat the bullet.

As I mentioned in earlier post, best 20 bucks I spent on equipment.
