Lee Collet Die

Hi all.

Might not be the correct thread but i need assistance.

I have been reloading for a couple of years using RCSB FL die for 308 with RCBS RS2 press. I decided to jump to Neck sizing using Lee Collet die and keep the rest of the brass as fire formed to my chamber. I have read and watched various sources and understand most of the logic and workings of the die. However, now i'm at a cross road. After following Lee's instructions as well as other user's instructions i get the same result. The very top portion of my brass neck (<0.5mm / <0.02") is not being pressed/sized like the rest of the neck.

Thought it was my setup, hence tried the different options. After seeing the same result, i took the collet die apart and using the shell holder and the collet only, i saw why this was happening.

The brass neck can be seen sticking out at the top of the collet. The foto below also shows the top of the collet has an angled edge. Is this the same for all collets?

Now my question is: Is my collet sized incorrectly (stamped 308 L9 on the side)? Who else have done this test to see? I checked the brass length, 51mm (2.008"). I use a Lee case length gauge to ensure correct length, so all my brass are the same length at 51mm (2.008"). I'm thinking that this will have an the size of the section grabbing the bullet.

Below is just for illustration (i know the bullet is upside down...). The one photo shows the depth the bullet drops when using the Lee collet die (right photo). The other photo shows the depth the bullet drops using the RCBS FL die (left photo). This is just to illustrate that the top portion is not being resized like it should, when compared to the FL die.

UPDATE: Saw the post about the 2019 > collets that has a 0.05" reduction in length. So that explained the top portion not being sized. Thanks Lee...

I certainly hope Lee fixes the issue or makes two different lengths. I have always used a FL sizer, but was getting ready to start using Lee college on my .223 and 6.5 CReedmoor. I had just purchased one for my .223, but have yet to receive it. Now, I’m wondering if I wasted my money...... :(
