Leade length ------- 10 twist

I am having a 6BR done at the present time. I found out from the smith that the freebore of his reamer according to the specs of it is just .045. Just wondering how much if any problems it may pose in a 10 twist barrel. I think I will be okay with the lighter bullets but how about the 95 Berger VLD or 90 Lapua Scenar which I was hoping to use? They could be quite a ways in the case. What affects could this cause me? I do have access, I just found out yesterday, to the Canadian made Wildcat bullets. They are out of Alberta. He makes 10 ogive match bullets on J4 jackets for the 6mm out to 120 grs. I plan on getting some 90grs to try out. Talked with the manufacturer and he says the bearing surface is short on them so I am possibly wondering if I will be okay? Anyone ever have any experience with 10 ogive bullets?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Calvin

My 6br has .060 & I use 95Bergers with it in 8tw until lands move enough for heavier bullets.
I don't think it'll be an issue for you at all. Take a look at .015 as set in your calipers. It ain't much.

The .045 Freebore is actually just about right for the Berger 95 VLD which has a VERY short bearing surface section. The Scenar 90 is a more conventionally shaped bullet, so you want a Freebore about .060-.070 ideally, to keep the base of the bearing surface away from the doughnut area. But if you seat into the lands, you should be OK with the Scenar. Dave Kiff created a reamer spec based on Lapua loaded ammo with the 90 Scenar, and ended up with a .054 freebore measurement.

Thanks for the info guys. I thought it was not a lot of difference but I wanted to ask those that know. You eased my mind. I am new to this trying to understand what contributes to accuracy.

Thanks again,
Calvin
