So i have a TON of lc brass that a normally Use in my AR . Was just wondering if anyone has ever used lc brass in a match chamber ? Im sure with a lot of prep work it can be done ? Just an idea...

cj,
LC Brass should work just fine. I did a lengthy test (3 months from start to finish) comparing various types of LC brass in a .308 Match barrel bolt gun to see how it compared to both Lapua and Norma brass using the same loads and seating depths for my tests. I bought once fired LC, LC Match and LC National Match (just short of 600 casings) and all casing were prepped the same. I then shot them in my .308 Benchrest Rifle @ 100 yds which is what I shoot anymore. All the brass performed well with Lapua edging out Norma which edged out all the LC Brass, score wise. BTW, I did have to use a Small Base Die on the LC Brass due to a tight Match Chamber in my rifle and the casing had been fired in a generous Military chamber.

And consistency wise in terms of brass weight and capacity, resulted in likewise results, with Lapua giving me the closest final comparisons for the test. Now I did note that LC brass is very dependable and "tough stuff" and I suspect will last longer in terms of case life. I guess it all depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Would I compete with LC brass in competition, NO. Would I use it for recreational or hunting scenarios, YOU BET I WOULD.

So in the end, unless you are trying to compete or set some records, you are definitely good to go with any of the LC brass. BTW, I just got through loading 150 rds using LC Match and LC National Match for my son's new Remington 700 SPS .308. Haven't shot it yet and the rifle is still enroute. But I expect that LC brass will perform very well, especially after the brass is acclimated to this chamber.

Lake City 5.56 brass is very high quality brass and harder and stronger in the base area than any other commercial case made. It also has very uniform neck and case body thickness. But there are two types of LC brass and one type failed military quality control standards, you can buy once fired "military" LC brass or the ones the military rejected and Federal sells.

Did you ever wonder where Federal gets their Lake City brass? I have both types and the Federal brass has more variations in weight and thickness. It is still good brass and meets commercial standards, BUT the brass Federal sells are seconds and rejected by the military for not meeting their "higher" standards.

I prep the Lake City cases for my off the shelf factory Savage .223 and AR15 A2 HBAR. You will need to weigh and sort these cases and check the neck thicknesses variations and prep the primer pockets. Its more work than Lapua brass but you will not cry if you loose a few cases.

Very cool! I do have good brass i save if i shoot a match . Its expensive to shoot it all the time. So is it worth getting a body die OR just FL size after a few times of neck sizing ? I am wanting to get a small base 223 die. Ill need it for my other ar upper it has a tighter chamber than a stander ar barrel.

cjmac,
I know I'm going to get flamed for saying this but I use LC brass in my custom rifle and if you're willing to do the work (anneal and turn necks) it works very well.

I was participating in the Texas State Rifle Long Range Championship this weekend with it. On Saturday it was the individual competitions and among the F/TR Marksman class I won two of the three matches. However, I am the only guy using LC brass, most of the other guys are using Lapua Palma brass. So I am a bit of a heretic.

I did compare the LC and the Lapua (regular primer) and found that that the LC doesn't shoot any better or any worse than Lapua. What I like about the LC is that it has tight primer pockets and it is harder then Lapua, so that I can push it harder without getting loose primer pockets. The Lapua Palma brass is hard to find because so many competitors are switching to it. My main reason for using LC is because it is the hardest brass out there and I believe it will last longer than other brass thereby save me time. I'm on the 4th firing and everything is working well for me.

Well... it's out there, though I admit a brief search turned up a lot of 'backorder' postings.

I've been using it since it came out, bought another 200 cases ;D late last year. All I've ever received have been tagged with the same batch # as the very first.

Right now it's available at:

http://powdervalleyinc.com/ LU4PH226 $79.14/100

http://www.brunoshooters.com/product/7737.html $0.74/ea.

My other usual sources are out :-\
