Lawton actions?

What is the consensus on the Lawton actions for a custom build?

I am thinking of putting together a F-class type rifle, and was wondering if this would be a good place to start. I see on another board a group buy is in the works on their short actions.

Thanks for any input.

I have two Lawton 7500's, one is an F-Open, with a mag bolt face, the other is a hunting rifle with a Lapua bolt face.
Would not hesitate buying another when I need another action.
First one required NO work, the second needed just a little bit of bolt lug lapping.

Dirtball - Fit and finish was pretty good then?

When you say 'lapua bolt face', does that mean the firing pin is bushed to handle the extra pressures of full-house 6.5x47L loads?

Also, what type of extractor are they using, SaKO? I'll have to look again at their website - they could take better pictures for us laymen.....

Thanks,

The fit and finish was good, the bolt face is .595 for 338 Lapua.
The firing pin fit is good and no bushing required. The extractor is a sako style.

My bad. I tend to forget about the 'other' Lapua case. I guess I'm looking more to the 7000 action for use as a 6.5x47 vehicle. I thought I'd read they were using the M16 style extractor also?

I have a 7000 on my 6.5x284 and it shoots well. But I was unhappy with the service and the trigger cut was oversized. Next time I'll buy a Stiller.

My Lawton was very rough and required a lot of final finishing . Bolt lugs were not smooth and required lapping . For the money I'd go with a Stiller . Far superior and way above the Lawton in quality . Guess which one will be easier to sell in the end .

I had heard about all these people with bad expiriances a few months after I ordered mine, And I was actuall quite concerned about what I may recieve.. I didnt call Lawton and ask about any of the complaints, but waited till mine arrived.

So far Im very impressed with my 7500. It is my first custom so I might not be seeing something someone else might see. But its slick as glass and shoots lights out!!

I ordered a barreled action, And the barrel is the best custom Ive used so far..

Maybe they have improved there quality control..
