Lathes?

I am wanting to start trying to do some barrel work and was wondering what lathes folks use. I have a 11" Logan that has pretty much has been completely restored, the only thing left to do is add a quick change tool post, it still has the old rocker style and isn't that ridged. What advise would you all have to give getting started? I realize the precision required to make a safe firearm and I personnally won't accept anything less than perfection.

I think one of the most important things will be your set, how do you want to do your work? Through the headstock or between centers in the steady rest? I believe your machine has a 1 3/8" spindle bore which is big enough to do most work through the headstock. If you decide to work in the headstock you will need a spider on the out bound side of the spindle and a four jaw or spider chuck on the inbound side.
