A friend was complaining of light strikes with his 111 so we took the bolt apart to give it a look. When we took off the bolt plug out came a coil spring and a round wire ring. After taking everything else apart I didn't see anything really wrong except that the tag end of the forward most spring appeared to be digging into the shaft of the firing pin.
I got to looking at this spring and the round wire ring and came to the conclusion that the wire ring was actually part of the forward spring that had broken off. I suggested contacting Savage customer service for a new set of springs.
Later this evening I did a search and saw a bolt disassembly vid that also showed the round wire ring. I found other pics that showed the tag end of the forward spring deformed so that it would dig into the firing pin shaft.
So, is the wire ring actually a thrust washer or is it a broken off piece of the front spring. It's so perfectly round that I wondered. That being said, the tag end of the forward spring was NOT ground flat and was quite deformed so that the forward end of the rearward spring would be put in a bind I would think.
Anybody ran into any trouble with the later Savs ?
