Last trip to the range...

... to verify my load for my Ridgeline 7mm Rem Mag. Can't be more satisfied than I am with the results. Tried 4831sc and N165 but neither gave me the results as that good ol' Re22. spread and deviation not quite what I would like but, I think I will just stick with it.

I had a 7mm Rem factory stainless barrel. I sold it about 1980. It shot wallet groups with the 154 Gr Hornady round nose. I don't have my records but it was with 4831 before SC. Took 2 deer with it. Sold it when I got layed off from work and my hunting group broke up. Back then I must have been good dealing with recoil.

I miss those days....
In the mid/late 80's I shot a Rem 700 7mm Mag with a Leupold VXII 3.5x10 quite a bit. Reloaded with 140, 150, 160 and 175 projectiles (Sierra, Speer and Nosler) over H4895, IMR4895, H870 and IMR4831 . Don't have any of the records from back then but in those dark days before everyone shot 1000yrds on a regular basis those loads would consistently land COM hits on my ex-wife's 6" and 8" stuffed animals at 400 yards. As Webster said "Back then I must have been good dealing with recoil." I was, but that rig beat the snot out of me. And now, 37 years later I'm still fighting the flinch. However, those were good old days with fond mammories, the only thing I would do differently is put a muzzle break on her. The rifle, not the ex-wife.

Those are amazing groups for a magnum cartridge and speaks to your ability to control a caliber with that kind of recoil and muzzle blast.

I could say you are ready load wise for any hunting challenge presented to you. Now it's time to start honing your field shooting skills. ;)

whatever critter that sees the business end of that load isn't going to be around long enough to complain about something better.

I love the 7mag. I know there are "better" 7mm cartridges out there, but why fix what isn't broken?

A 120gr Vmax absolutely *hammers* coyotes. very NSFW results. :-)
