Large ring or Small ring

What is the difference between Large ring and Small ring Savage barrels?
Is it long action and short action, old action or new action manufacturing, or caliber specific?

I assume by large ring and small ring you are referring to the tenion of the barrels. I can't tell you which models have the small vs. the large shank because I don't know. When you pull the barrel off a Savage just measure the inner diameter of the recoil lug and that will tell you whether it's a small or large shank. Small shank will measure around 1.060 and large shank will measure around 1.112. Brian Brown.
