LAPUA vs Winchester Brass

For hunting purposes, Winchester .243 brass is plenty good enough...
It is also used in a lot of 243 SLR's without problems..
Actually the SLR seems to prefer it over Lapua brass.....

I use Lapua for hunting but all mine are SS and ejector disabled so there is no case loss. Only exception is my .264 LBC AR but Lapua is really the only game in town for it.

For just hunting winchester is just fine. Especially for deer, hog, antelope, and larger game hunting. Especially if you are going to shuck one out onto the ground now and then.

If chuck or varmint hunting where you eject each round into your hand or pick it up.... then Lapua is fine as well.

Accuracy wise for hunting..... not a LOT of difference in my experience. WD

With prep Winchester brass can be very effective. If you asked about any of the other 10 or so brands out there aside from Winchester / Lapua, you would get a lot more in favor of Lapua / Winchester as some of the better hunting brass. Just my .02...

For hunting applications I don't believe you need to spent the extra money for premium brass like Lapua. I've used Winchester and Remington for many years for long range varmint and big game hunting and have no compliants.

I believe a more important issue (rather than a specific brand) is to start with new cases and prepare them properly.

I use Winchester in all of my loads. I hunt varmints and deer/hogs as well as shoot long range. I have carried it to 1000 many times but usually reach for one of my 6.5's or 7mm's. I shoot F-class at 600 with it quite a bit. If you prep it right it is just as good as the Lapua. I shot both and can tell no difference if you sort. I just think 243 Lapua is a bit of price gouge when you can buy 308 40 bucks cheaper. I sort my winchester and use the most consistent for the LR and the rest for hunting. The deer cant tell if the case weighs a grain off. Matt

For 300 yards and under properly prepared Win brass will do u just fine. Remember it is the whole package not just one componeont that makes a difference :D

For my deer rifle and other rifles I don't reload for frequently I use Winchester or Remington etc.. For my varmint and target rifles which I use more often it's either Norma or Lapua.

For Competition Lapua, no question. For hunting Winchester, varmint shooting, and even some target. I have never had any luck with Remington brass it has never lasted or been consistent.

If Lapua isn't available in the caliber that I want, I use Winchester. Winchester has been (for me) the most consistant of the brands available. I pick it over Norma consistantly because it's not soft. The only down side is doing the case prep work. If you have lots of time & enjoy the prep work, buy Win. If not , Lapua. Yes it costs more INITIALLY.
