Lapua vs Norma

I ordered two boxes of Lapua cartridges...6mm BR Lapua. The box contained Norma brass cartridges. Pretty and all, but not what I ordered. Funny that the box said Lapua.

I also ordered 100 Lapua brass in 6mm Lapua BR. That came in just fine so I know Lapua brass is made.

What happened? I don't think Lapua and Norma are interchangeable. I want to have a reamer made and I will send the shop a cartridge for a sample. Given I will be loading Lapua, should I send in one of the Norma cartridges I received in thew box marked Lapua?

They are marked "6mm BR norma" right? And the other side should read "LAPUA". The 6mm BR norma is the standardized name of the actual round. Just like it says 22-250 rem on the bottom of Winchester 22-250 brass.

Yep All is good! It's Lapua brass.

And dimension wise, they are identical. Norma was the originator of the case dimensions, so there would not a patent infringement problem with Remington, then a short time after the Norma brass became available, Lapua began producing it to the Norma dimensions. Obviously Norma & Lapua were able to come to an agreement.

Thank you very much guys. I have read many times that Lapua was superior to Norma. The brass being a higher quality and thicker was the issue and Norma was supposed to cost more. That info might have been stale. At least it doesn't hold water.

I measured both the loaded Norma round and the Lapua brass and both are identical.....except for neck brass thickness. But the neck still needs to be stretched .006 so maybe that would bring that measurement into alignment also. Only a matter of .0015 difference.

Again, thank you very much.
