LAPUA SPEED QUESTION

I always here match shooters say my rifle likes 24 speed Lapua or 28 speed etc

As the weather has heated up I noticed that some 24 speed I have which would come out to about 1060 something has been shooting around 1090 ish out of my rifle in 88 degree weather--All of the Lapua Center x I have is shooting almost the same 1090 No Matter what the speed on the box -- and my Polar Biathlon is around 1130 So...I took the lot that was shooting the very best--nailed down the avg speed --then I went through all my ammo in the same test to find another center x that was as close as possible and it was near exact speed but...it did not shoot as well as the other lot--So....speed itself just did not seem to be the reason it was grouping better

I can't imagine that other shooters are getting the speed they think they are and I just have to question does the speed Really make the difference or is it another factor in the ammo that makes one better than the other?

It seems like I had more lots shooting smaller when it was cooler

I don't know what I don't know and am just working to get a better handle on what makes this all tick.

Good luck. There are many that have travelled your road. Report back when you find the answer.

I use my Garmin for every match I shoot. My lot of Center X starts out about 1065 - 1070 fps.
second card is around 1085-1090. still shooting tight groups.
I do patch out between cards

That is interesting. I have not used mine during a match as I have been watching the wind working to understand. So far it has been about learning the different venues habits. Each range has a wind personality I will call it.

Dave,
You will rarely, if ever, hear match shooters with an accomplished record chase “ preferred speed”. You’re wasting your time beating that drum.
#2….Tony is not gonna step on any toes but take a breadth and re read the comment.
Getting answers to questions….important. Asking the right ones to begin with….more important.
The ONLY relationship with speed, all things being equal, (rarely), slower is less wind sensitive.
Guys chasing speed only……they’re killing themselves right from the get go.
