Lapua bullets

Just curious, don't see any posts with people shooting Lapua bullets. What's up is there a problem with their bullets? They seem to be available , a little expensive but no more than a lot of others. I have some I haven't shot yet but they weigh out and the few I have spun and checked bearing surface seem fine. Any feed back appreciated! JVON

I shot with Lapua bullets for 5 years, 155 scenars through my 308 and 139 through my 6.5 x 55. Thay worked brilliantly the only reason i no longer use them is i no longer have my 6.5, and shoot heavy 210's through my 308 and lapua don't make a 210.
But they are good quality bullet and are comparable with others on the market ie Sierra/bergers, i hope this answers your question. All the best from England

The Scenar L 6mm bullets are some of the most consistent bullets we have ever tested. They are shooting outstanding groups in a 6mmBR (90 grain L) and a 6 BRDX (105gr L). Some barrels may show a preference for other brands, but these Lapua bullets shoot great in a Krieger and Brux respectively. We are jumping the 90s .020 and have the 105s about .012 in the lands. Prior to the introduction of the Ls, I shot the regular scenar 105s with success in a 6mmBR.

I agree with Forum Boss about the Lapua/Scenar bullets. Although I have not used them as often as Bergers and Sierras I have had great luck with both their 90 gr and 105 gr 6mm at 600 yds. I was surprised at how well the 90 gr worked in my 6 BR at 600 yards. I have thought about trying them again but their only drawback is their price. They are quite a bit more expensive than most of the other brands. Since Forum Boss says they work great in Brux barrels and I just ordered a 6 BR Brux barrel the other day I will probably give them a try when I receive the barrel.

In a few of my Krieger barrels (1-8" tw) I did extensive testing with the regular 90 and 105 Scenars and, while they shot well - they were not the best. Later, I decided to run a few of the new Scenar L bullets through the gun with the new IMR 8208 XBR powder. I test loads at 400 yards for my 600 yard loads initially. After seeing promise with this bullet/powder combo, I varied seating and, at .015 jam w/lots of tension (contrary to my norm), I shot a nice 5-shot group of .332" - at 400 yards. This was the best group I've ever shot at 400 with any bullet. I am totally sold on that bullet in that barrel. They don't shoot well out of my other Krieger - so I'd give them a test drive before a large purchase for sure.

I read the info on Lapua's website about how they tightened up their QC standards on making the L bullet - but I was under the impression that they didn't change the design much - if at all. That may or may not be correct. I do know that I have NEVER sorted a box of bullets that were so uniform!!! 1/10th grain maximum weight deviation, etc. As noted by another, these suckers are expensive. if your gun likes them, best to buy in 1,000 round boxes. Sinclair International and Graff & Son sell in such quantities. Graff had the L bullets on sale for around $340.00/1,000 around six months ago. I bought enough to fry my barrel. Wasn't sure whether to put the bullets or the gun into the safe.

[quote. Wasn't sure whether to put the bullets or the gun into the safe.

I just did a price check with Midway and the Lapua Scenar-L 6mm 105 gr box of 100 is $58.99. The 90 gr L's were $48.99 .

The regular Lapua Scenar 105 gr and 90 gr are cheaper than the L's but still more than Bergers and Sierra.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I don't need a bigger boat. I need a bigger safe.

UKFTR.SHOOTER,

Standby; the new 30 cal 220 grain Scenar L's are out now, and look to be real winners. Still waiting to get the ballistic data from the Doppler Radar shoot, but it should be impressive.
