Lapua 6BR Improved

Exciting news that Lapua is CONSIDERING offering a new cartridge like a 6BR improved. A BRX with a long neck would sell well and eliminate the fire forming and related work. I'll bet it will have a 30 degree shoulder if they decide to offer it, just like the 6BR and the 6.5 x 47 that many of us neck down to form the 6 x 47 Lapua. Wondering if Reloader 17 would be too slow for this proposed case? Maybe get 3100 FPS with RL17? Certainly 3050 FPS with RL15 or Varget.

Not enough case cap for RL17 in a Dasher...Not pushing 105/108's anyways...It runs a little slow. I understand that some guys are shooting it, but my testing showed RL15 much faster at the same pressures, and more accurate..

EDIT - just saw where you where referring to the 6x47 case...not sure on it..

If Lapua is to offer a new 6MM BR Improved on scale of a 6 MM BR BXR. I know about 6 people who would buy the cases as soon as they would be available.

6BRX cases we need to win whenever we have to compete! I know, got a little to exited.
Lapua, hurry up! The market will be huge! Soon a lot more people will realize the potential of the 6BRX, it's the best!

The funny thing is as soon as they might release a BRX type case with a longer neck, somebody will be,'improving' it, blowing the shoulder of it forward or to 40 degrees to try to get 'another bite at the apple' - it just never stops - the grass is always greener . . . .

As experienced by many, many Palma shooters, there is a accuracy node that hovers really close to 3000fps in 30 inch barrels. The BRX makes that window easily and consistently attainable with several powder choices. The accuracy potential of the cartridge speaks for its self.

R17 will work in a Dasher!
The accuracy node is at 3000 fps, which can be obtained with several powders.

RL-17 Testing in a Dasher August 8, 2008

Please NOTE; Custom single shot action was used, others may have pressure problems.

Sacramento 100 yard Chronograph test. Elev = 200’ Hum = 56% Temp = 61 degrees.

Five shot groups

BAT action 6BR imp.,UBL) Sierra 107s, CCI-BR4s, Lapua brass. 32” Krieger barrel

LOAD --- POWDER -----– MV --- ES – SD --- GROUP
33.5 ---- Varget ----2995 --- 20 – 07 --- 0.244” normal S107 load.
33.0 ---- RL-17 -----2771 --- 51 – 19 --- 0.357”
34.0 ---- RL-17 -----2831 --- 05 – 02 --- 0.341”
35.0 ---- RL-17 -----2917 --- 17 – 06 --- 0.328”
35.5 ---- RL-17 -----2947 --- 22 – 08 --- 0.299”
36.0 ---- RL-17 -----2990 --- 26 – 11 --- 0.157”
36.5 ---- RL-17 -----3029 --- 18 – 07 --- 0.560”
37.0 ---- RL-17 -----3051 --- 65 – 25 --- 0.422”

NO pressure sighs at all. Could have gone with more powder, 37 grains is not compressed.

Jerry,

Thanks for the info. As some people are finding in other cartridges with Reloder 17 the accuracy CAN be attained, but the accuracy window may be somewhat narrow. Jason was recently testing our 6-6.5x47, and based on preliminary testing,at a single seating depth and the 3160 fps node), Reloder 17 grouped the best, outshooting H4350 to our surprise.

Pleased to see you didn't sprinkle ALL that RL17 in your garden. :D

I'll bet that Lapua will make the 6mmBRX case available. The reason, I have just spent the money to have a hydrolic forming die made. That is about my luck lately. If they make the BRX it would only make sense that they also make the dasher too. Their expense of making the forming dies would be quickly recouped. I am surprised they don't offer a 22-250, 6mmRemington and 280 improved cases.

I have been making and shooting the 6 BRX case for I guess 12 or so years. Amazing how popular it could get when the work goes away.
I have been shooting the BRX about as long as you Jeff. I was ticked off when I learned Alpha started making Dasher brass!… every Tom Dick and Harry will have one and won’t have to work making Brass like all the rest of us had to do!…. No worries I tried the Dasher and it was sub standard to Lapua! Don’t know about Bra but hope they never produce BRX but if it’s anything like the Dasher brass you will be at standard Br velocities anyways so no biggy
