lapua 6br brass

What has changed if you dont mind listing your concerns.Look up kevin thomas,he works for lapua usa.

From the responses I got wanting to buy my Gold Box Lapua 6mmbr brass I'd say ther must be a problem of some kiind.

I remember reading in a post about the newer stuff either having thinner neck walls, or not as consistent neck walls......

No, I don't agree. So happy with it in the BR's and the BRX that I just placed an order with Powder Valley for more. I don't see any big difference between it and the cardboard box with the .001" thicker necks. Had my chambering reamer reground from a .272" to a .270" neck diameter and continue "business as usual". Mike: I was keeping my eyes open for any of the older cardboard box that may be available, but only for the ability to give it a light clean-up cut, that would reduce it to the newer neck wall thickness anyway. Even at that, I have not convinced myself that even a light clean-up cut is necessary. Using the blue box "as-is" and cannot determine any loss of accuracy, compared to the thicker necks that have had the clean-up cut.

Plugger,
I have to say it's the same old story about good lots and better lots. I've never seen a "bad" lot out of Lapua, but have experienced better lots than others sometimes. But IMO, Lapua remains the best and most consistent brass available. If you are into precision shooting, sometimes some brass needs work while other times they are right on. But I wouldn't say quality at Lapua has changed any. Just my thoughts.

I've run through 3 boxes of the new plastic boxed Lapua 6br and it runs .012 to .012.5 as far as neck thickness is concerned, seems to be as good or better than the old stuff as far as I'm concerned. Works just perfect as it is for my 22BR .254 necks with loaded rounds setting right at .251.5....

The quality has not changed, just the dimensional tolerance. Lapua reported that some of the older Lapua brass was measuring higher than the max allowed CIP specification for neck outside diameter once loaded. For that reason they reduced their tolerances (and as a result neck brass thickness) to ensure they stay within CIP specs. It could be argued that the older brass was the poorer quality as some were exceeding specifications.

That said, some were custom chambering their barrel for a no turn neck based on the old brass dimensions. The new brass leaves them with about a 0.001" increased clearance, so some are not so happy about that. Do a search on blue box Lapua and you will find a number of threads.

I'm on the fence with it. I have the older brass, and may have a few which are just a little too large in the neck. The plan for this season is to see if there may be some association between the larger loaded neck and fliers. If so I may have to neck turn, or cull the offenders in the batch I have.

Plugger,

We haven't "changed" the specs in our 6mm BR case necks, but we are running newer lots a bit more closely in tolerance. It's precisely as on described, and he's correcgt in all aspects here. We'd previously allowed them to run at the high end of the allowable specs, and inevitably some of them ran very slightly over. This created a problem with loaded rounds failing to pass the CIP neck gaging. As a CIP member, we are required to maintain our products within those stated specs. As a result, we are running current lots a bit closer to the middle of the tolerance range, than at the high end. But no, there was no "change" in the specs themselves. As to the concentricity, there has been no change whatsoever in our QC requirements, and those specs remain among the tightest in the industry. If you've had issues with an individual lot, by all means, send it back so we can take a look at the problem. If there is in fact a problem, we'll be more than happy to make it right for you.

Sincerely,

Hi
I had SOME problemS with a new batch of 6mmbr Norma brass and i sent them a e-mail about it and got no reply from them.
To be fair it was the first time that i have ever had some problems with brass from Lapua.
The problems i had with the batch was that all the brass neck top edges where very poorly finished off and had to spend sometime re-cutting and chamfering the inside and out side before setting the bullets in.
