I just received 500 pieces of Lapua 6BR brass from Bruno's,$0.56@). I measured case length and weight on about 300 of them. All but about a dozen were 1.554-1.555 long, with a few at 1.553 and a few more at 1.556, and two cases at 1.560. I trimmed the longer cases back to 1.555 and chamfered the case mouth before weighing.
I sorted them into 4 batches using a Mettler balance with 1mg,0.015gr) accuracy: a "light" batch, two narrow-weight-range,+/- 0.08gr) batches for match shooting, and a "heavy" batch, grain weights are converted from grams):
124.06-124.74gr 81 cases,28.6%)
124.75-124.91gr 33 cases,11.7%)
124.92-125.08gr 44 cases,15.5%)
125.09-125.77gr 105 cases,37.1%)
>125.78gr 20 cases, 7.1%)
Pretty impressive QC at Lapua: 93% of cases within +/- 0.85gr, or +/- 0.7%. Now I know why so many of you don't bother to sort Lapua 6BR brass ...
