Lapua 55 gr fmj 22cal

Has anyone tried these and what was your opinion-results.....I found some these in a lot that I purchased at an auction

I have used both: S538 and S569. S538 is older and S569 is new one which has replaced S538. You can use same Vihtavuori reloading data for both. I think that especially S569 is most accurate FMJ which you can find in .22. S538 is almost as good but my .222 Tikka shoots better with newer one. Lapua has originally developed those FMJ:s for black grouse/capercaillie hunting. I have shot 13mm five shot groups, 100m range. For .223/22-250 both should also work fine.
There is also older model which number I do not remember but it is quite similar to S538.
I have reloaded those bullets with N130/N133/N135. All those powders do work well with those bullets.
edit: visual differnce between S538/S569 is that S538 is more like flat base and S569 has a little boat tail.

I was thinking of first trying them in 22-250 i have n133 n140 n150 and n540

Was wondering how they shot I have a large box of them and did not want to open them before I had some feedback....thanks for the reply

glad to give some information. My friend loads that bullet on his 22-250, mainly for hunting. He has been quite satisfied with accuracy.

Tried the bullets with 8 different powders using data that i use for sierra 55 ......i used midrange powder charge for each and .030 off the lands...best group was 1.5 inch after shooting the 8 different groups

my final shots for the day were with the sierra 55 shot 5 shot group just at 3/4 inch so i guess my rifle does not like that bullet......may load up another batch changing seating depth

Sometimes it is like that. Did you check Vihtavuori reloading data? But with that amount of testing you should get decent resulta if your rifle/barrel likes bullet, this time it seems that there is no love between those bullets and your rifle.

Its funny how rifles are my buddy has the same rifle and his rifle shoots those bullets great i was lucky to get 3 boxes of 100 unopened for free and i was thinking that I would be set for a long time with that rifle.....shoots berger and sierra and the lapua hollow points very accurately..........I actually sent vihta an email he gave me a few suggestions tried them but no luck......I have 7 other rifles to try them in and see what they do.....??
