Lapua 220 Russian @Optics Planet

thank you for the info on this. I just ordered 3 boxes. I think they have 10 left.

FYI- coupon code “HAPPY25” will save 12% on your order. With the discount code and free shipping, their price is the best I’ve seen since 220 Russian has come back in stock.

My experience with Optics Planet is they truly have nothing in stock - regardless of what current inventory indicates in their web page. I have ordered 5-6 items from them that showed in stock because of their competitive pricing. Ever time it would ship weeks to months later. Gave up on them +8 years ago. I hope they have changed their ways.

I appreciate brick and mortar stores even more and don't mind paying the extra to see and touch the items I want to purchase. Unfortunately they are getting fewer and far between between for shooting products. Some of my earliest memories are in a local sporting goods (aka gun store) and Otasco.

Estimated to ship by July 2025
Gotta be fast. They only had 13 boxes in stock when I posted this. July is their next estimated to be in stock.
Hopefully you're not in a pinch for this brass and you have to pay gouges prices at 250 dollars per box like some people were paying.
Happy New Year to all who scored at Optics Planet pricing.

I ordered two boxes this morning and received confirmation of shipping with tracking number
I hope they have changed their way and they ship out as promised. With my orders, they would issue a tracking number for shipment when the order was placed. However, they would also do this with a backordered item. My frustration with them was they never would let you know the order hadn't shipped. This was with rings, bases, and rails I used to get from them. Again hopefully mine was just the bad experience.

I despise companies that issue a tracking number with no product in stock. Once that happens, I am searching for a new vendor. I have had it happen dozens of times with my work.

Luck, Tim

They were a little shady in the 2020/2021 era. I dropped them for a couple years. I've ordered a couple times from them in the last 12 months. Good experience and with sales and codes their prices can be pretty attractive.

Their estimated date has been worthless in my experience (random example below). I've played that game... Countless extensions in estimated ship date. 1735693080661.png

I'm going to ask a question that I hope someone can give me an answer. Since everyone that shoots a 6PPC uses 220 Russian sized brass and nobody shoots a 220 Russian, why wouldn't they just produce 6PPC sized brass? I mean, it is the 21st century.

Lots of variations in 6 PPC reamers. Who's reamer would they spec it for?
I understand that the 6 PPC is somewhat of a generic chamber, but so is every other cartridge under the sun. Why not start with something closer to what you're going to end up with? I mean, there is probably some forming to do and then fire forming in the "unique" 6PPC chamber. With a virgin piece of 6PPC, you wouldn't have to open up the neck. Just load it up and fire form it. Voila!
A case to exactly match your chamber.

I have a FF barrel so forming's not an issue . Alpha makes 6 PPC brass that's getting descent reviews so there are options. But I'll stick with the 220 Lapua for the cases.

Since I bought 200 Alpha 6PPC cases, I might never shoot another 6PPC made from a 220 Russian. I believe the Alpha is that good.

Why? First, they really duplicated the dimensions of the PPC made from Lapua 220 Russia. Not like Norma who insisted on making the head diameter .0015 too small. The cases are also 1.511 in length, which matches my reamer perfect. Most 220 Russian ends up at 1.495.

It was always said that the reason Lapua would not make a “factory” 6PPC case was some type of liability, and since they sold every piece of 220 Russian they made, why bother.

Now that there is a real alternative, perhaps Lapua will start manufacturing a true 6PPC case.

By the way, I have 4 new boxes of Lapua 220 Russian on the shelf.
