Lapua 105 Scenar

I have shot the scenal L in a Dasher for F class and they work very well. They measure very consistently. There was no need for bullet sorting.

I have used them for 300 yard Fclass with good results. But, for 600 yard matches there are better bullets.

While I agree with djporter that there are better bullets for 600 yards, by bc standards, I shot a 200-16x with the Lapua bullet. With iron sights and second match of the year, they are accurate.

I use regular Scenar, and have used them for several years. I also use the Berger hybrid.

I also like the regular Scenars. A good bullet at a good price point for myself. But I was told they are discontinuing the regular 105 Scenar and keeping the 105 Scenar L's. The bulk price was pretty good.

This is a well designed and superbly made bullet. They are widely used in the UK and Continental Europe, and of course Lapua factory 6BR ammo is the choice of many (most?) top European 300M ISSF competitors with the bullet - a fiercely competitive precision discipline with big sponsorship money and prizes in many Scandi and European countries.

However, it is a smaller diameter six than most US equivalents. See the original 6BR Guide section on the Accurate Shooter main site - although now dated, it still has much useful stuff in it. It says:

The Lapua 105gr Scenar is a very uniform bullet and ultra-accurate, but the max diameter is 0.24285, compared to 0.2433+ for some other brands. Accordingly the Scenars may prefer a tighter bore. They shot superbly in this editor’s PacNor 8-twist and a .236-land Krieger tested by Jackie Schmidt.

There is also a table of 6mm bullet diameters there IIRC which shows how much this calibre varies - so you may get into barrel + bullet compatibility issues.

It is an elderly design nowadays, and although its BC is good, it has been overtaken by many newer designs.

Laurie, again I agree with the diameter comment. The great thing about Bartlein barrels is the customers ability to specify land and groove diameter. I did get a barrel to match the bullet.

With that combination I was able to win the USAS 300m National Prone Championship a couple years ago.

This is a great bullet and not to be overlooked at any distance. even at 1000 yards.
