Lake City Match 7.62 Value

Nodak7mm

Team Lefse
Guys,

Looking to determine the reasonable value of a full "can" of Lake City Match 7.62. All 460 rds still in original sealed packaging

I don't shoot this cartridge anymore and am looking to do some horse trading with it or sell it out right.

Any ideas, comments, quotes would be appreciated. Feel free to PM if interested.

Thanks..

Hi Rod,

I think you will get the highest price from collectors. You might try Gunbroker.

I am familiar with this sort of ammo. It was loaded with 173 grain FMJBT, and has since been designated as M118 'Special Ball'. It was produced by Lake City (your stuff), Frankford Arsenal, and perhaps others of which I'm not aware.

In my rifles, it was typically capable of 1.5 MOA groups at 100y (5 shots). I used it for fouling rounds and metallic silhouette matches, where my standing position wobble was just a waste of better ammo. 8)

I bought nine cases of this stuff (two ammo cans per case) from a guy who used to compete for the Army's shooting team. After realizing its limitations, I sold most of it to an FFL holder who served in Vietnam and who had quite a few customers that liked this vintage ammo.

The military now uses M852 Match (which is loaded with Sierra's 168 BTHP) and M118 LR (loaded with Sierra's 175 BTHP).

I wouldn't be surprised if a collector would pay you $40/box (of twenty rounds) for the stuff. And if the ammo can includes the cardboard bits and the little (ribbons?) to aid in pulling the boxes out of the can, then so much the better. The boxes are sealed if I recall correctly, white cardboard and an eagle and blue/red graphics. Collectors will like the sealed boxes, so don't open them up if some schmuck wants a picture of the rounds inside. (Tell them to visualize...)

Good luck. Sniper's Hide might be another place; despite it being a lewd/rude/crude/skewed crowd, there are quite a few collectors among the posers and legit shooters who go hog (vs. HOG) wild over authentic militaria related to long-range shooting.

To add to BOhio's comments-

Your Lake City M118 174gr FMJBT 7.62X51 Lot 60-13 ammo is loaded w/ stick powder.
The later M118 LR variant was loaded w/ ball powder.

As mentioned also the TactiKool/Mall Ninja's will pay good money for the original as they believe Federal Gold Medal Match is awesome ammo-NOT.

Don't let it out of your sight for less than $2.00 a round.

I'm sitting on numerous cases of M852/M118/M118LR...myself!
