Lake City 7.62x51 Match Brass

Shynloco

You can lead a horse to water, but ........
Does anybody know who sells or where you can buy new/unused Lake City Match brass OR Once Fired but fully prepped 7.62X51 (.308) brass these days? I've looked around on the Internet and most places that sell "Once Fired" brass doesn't swag the primer pockets to rid the brass of the crimping. I am aware of one popular retail business that sells LC brass (not Match), but ratings by buyers says the brass is in terrible shape and most is unusable. Any help would be appreciated.

Thx!

Alex

You could try these. Darn close to what you're looking for.

You may also try to find Lake City M118 LR brass. This is the good stuff, no crimp, same as our boys get issued. I had a few cases of it loaded and it was accurate ammo and great leftover brass.

I would not bother with machine gun fired brass, not worth the investment in my opinion.

Thx for the ideas guys. I've since been able to locate some cleaned, decapped and fully prepped Once Fired brass from two different sources at a good price. Unfortunately, brownell's does not permit backordering and they have no idea when they'll get any of the advertised NEW NATO stuff in. Don't quite understand why they'd advertise selling a product with restrictive parameters like that regardless of their good pricing.
Thx again to all!

Practically all of the LC 7.62 stuff available will have been MG-fired, M118LR being the obvious exception.

Personal experience, when M60s were in common use, I would have agreed completely; not worth any time investment. However, at present, most will have been fired in an M240B, and with those, completely different story -- IMO, well worth it.

Exception to this is if it's been fired in a minigun; those make what came out of M60s look like factory-fresh Lapua in comparison. So, buyer beware, stick with reputable sources.

Alb,
Thx for the tip. Only problem is that even the reliable vendors will tell you they cannot say what weapon their brass was fired in. SO IMHO, its a crap shoot unless you have an inside line with the provider who MIGHT have more specific info on the brass' origin. BTW, the brass I'm buying is going to be used for general play time shooting in an AR10 style /7.62x51 - .308 and is not for competition purposes. I'd be using Lapua if that were the case, as I'm finding it impossible to locate a vendor who sells new/unfired LC Match or LC National Match brass.

I think the various vendors are just buying up fired surplus from the services; you see these epic lots offered from time to time on the government surplus sites, so I presume they're buying those up. The vast majority of that stuff will have been recovered from MG pits on training ranges, so, while it's likely that no, there's no way they could vouch for the originating weapon, odds are it's M240s.

When I've purchased LC from Monmouth, I've typically rejected about 5% after inspection; I'm pretty picky, and and the price, I can afford to be. What I've found is that the brass tends to be long, but not blown out; that is, you'll certainly be trimming, but I've never needed a small base die. I also use these for an AR10.

Alex, I had found someone selling true 1x fired commercial .308 brass from a test facility, all brass never even touched the ground. He had about 25K last I saw maybe a week ago. I'll see if I can find his info. He was selling cheap. I don't remember the headstamp but it wasn't federal because I was thinking about buying some and I will not buy federal.

If you want,
I have some once fired Mil match brass ,
that was fired from my 308 SP Pistol, Rem OEM chamber,
which I don't reload for any more.

The brass will be SS pin tumbled with the primers removed,
nothing else done to it, there should be around 50+ rds.
I believe it is LC, not sure of the date, will have to find it to see for sure.

It will be yours for a trade for some brass I can use, such as,
256 Win brass, 22 Rem Jet, 221 Rem FB, 22 Hornet, 222 Win/Rem,
357 Rem Max.
PM/email me if you are interested.

Tia,
Don
