Lack of reply issue with barrel-maker

Hello all:

For the first time in an lengthly shooting HP shooting career I sent a barrel back to the manufacturer. The barrel would not group with known sights, known loads, and known action/bedding. Also, the barrel was recrowned to rule out that possible issue.
I contacted the manufacturer who said to return it. Since then I cannot get an answer to repeated e-mails and phone calls. I was very polite and just wanted to know if they had received the barrel; and if I would be getting a replacement (not pressing for immediate time frame).
I just wanted a brief "yes" or "no"-but can't even get a response.
For comparison I called Hart and Krieger-they immediately answer their phone and are happy to quote (projected) delivery times.
Any advice-should I just write this manufacturer off and forget about it?
Thanks,
Chuck

How long has it been? Just a guess but I would not think they are watching caller id and deliberately avoiding your calls. At the same time not calling you a liar or anything like that. Just saying I don't think a barrel maker would last long doing business like that. JMO and with more info for the members on this forum maybe you will get a better and more precise response. Don't give up on the manufacturer. Is the"smith" not the issue? Known sights, known loads, known action/bedding don't necessarily mean it will work for that barrel as I'm sure you know. More info will be helpful. You have come to the right place for answers( not from me I guarantee, many,MANY better minds on here than me, I,m a question guy myself).

The barrel was chambered by a gunsmith whose work is known to produce uniformly excellent results-top finishes in 600 and 1000 yd matches (Camp Perry, Ohio)-and mutiple state championships.
The barrel is an 8 inch twist 6 mm barrel chambered in 243 Win. I tried 7 different powders, 3 different projectiles varying seating depth from jam to jump, 4 different primers (including SR match), and 3 different cases. My last barrel from this manufacturer produced 1-1 and 1/2 inch groups prone iron-sight at 300 yards and I won the first mid-range match I shot with it.
This barrel will not shoot groups without 1 or more fliers and will not hold elevation at 300/600 yards. Thanks, Chuck
My standard load of H1000 and 107 Sierra grouped 4 to 7 inches at 300 yards-not good enough for accuracy work in HP competition.

chuckles,

I purchased a barrel from a company whose boss' name is Fred. He made barrels for the original T/C rifles. He advertised in Varmint Hunter magazine, but I don't remember what the company name was. I purchased a .17 Rem from him which fired little bitty groups. He guarenteed groups under an inch or maybe a half inch; it's been a lot of years so I don't remember. The shape of the stock caused it to rise so that I could not see the hits. I called about a muzzle brake and he said send it in.

When it came back it was about three inches shorter overall including the brake than before. It was also very inaccurate. My son-in-law speculated that he gave my barrel to someone because I told him how accuate it was. I sent it back. I called him about it. No cooperation. I wrote a letter no responce. I called the owner of Varmint Hunter after several weeks who contacted the advertiser and had a barrel on my porch in three days.

A suggestion for new barrel owners: When your gunsmith chambers it, have him return the end stub to you. I recently heard of a fellow who did not have that piece, and the manufacturer would not consider their warranty. The end stub contains markings to identify the bore, twist, manufacturers name and other codes. They need it for identification.

Well chuckles we don't have enough info to advise.
If shipped UPS the Tracking # can be used to confirm delivery.
If shipped USPS,, If insured that # can be used. Was there a "Delivery Confermation" tag #?

I bought a barrel from a Gent 2yrs ago this time of year. It was shipped USPS Priority and Insured just after Thanksgiving. Typically this would be a 3-5 day delivery.
Long story short, it showed up on the 29th day!!
1 day before I could file claim, the Insurance ticket/tracking # showed no activity beyond being scanned for shipment the first day. This caused great anxiety for both me and the shipper.
Could be he hasn't got the barrel yet, and has had bad experiance with shipping and anxious customers before,, non the less comunication is key, he should respond to you.

Let this thread go a couple days, then send an email with a link too this thread,,
What's his name?? What's the Business?
